Book 863: The Hollow Heart (Forgotten Gods #2) – Marie Rutkoski

I wanted to like this so much more than I did. After really adoring The Midnight Lie, I thought it was a shoe-in this one would be just as good. Unfortunately, it fell short for me.

The publicist reached out to me a few months ago and I was immediately drawn to the story because of the slow reveal of the magic and the love story aspect.* And Rutkoski really delivered on that in book one, but it just fell short for me in this book. Some of it may have been the narration, but I think the ending was what really sealed it for me as being meh.

Book 860: Obie is Man Enough – Schuyler Bailar

When I saw this on NetGalley I knew I was going to request it.* I remember the news stories of Bailar joining the Harvard University swim team and being the first trans athlete to compete on any NCAA D1 Men’s team and when I saw he wrote this I knew I wanted to read it.

The bulk of my LGBT reading is either MM Romance of some sort or nonfiction history/politics. There are a few Sapphic romances and a few with trans characters mixed in, but for the most part it’s not very diverse when it comes to reading the entire rainbow so I was super happy when the publisher approved my request!

Book 855: The Midnight Lie (Forgotten Gods #1) – Marie Rutkoski

When the publicist reached out to me about The Hollow Heart, coming out in mid-September, I was interested  enough in it to ask if they could provide a copy of this, the first book, in the duology and they did!* So extra thank yous for that!

I’m not sure if it was the Sapphic love story—how the publicist presented it, and I’ve read a few here and there and already acknowledged I need to expand my LGBT Romances—or if it was more the mystery of what was or wasn’t real when it came to Nirrim (the protagonist)  and her homeland. Honestly, it was a little bit of both, but more so the latter fantasy and magic aspect, the LGBT romance was just an added bonus.

Book 842: One Man Guy (One Man Guy #1) – Michael Barakiva

I didn’t plan to read this in an afternoon, it just happened 😀 Started it on my lunch break and then just kept going.

At some point last year, I requested a copy of this via NetGalley but was either denied or never heard back and as I was cleaning up my account I saw it listed somewhere and was like “oh that one did sound interesting,” so I checked my library and they had a digital copy and here we are.

Book 841: The Sky Blues – Robbie Couch

After finishing Jay’s Gay Agenda, I stumbled across this one either on Amazon or Overdrive in a “similar books” list. The cover was adorable and then I read the blurb and immediately requested a copy of it.

The Sky Blues is a delightful debut novel that tugs at all the heart strings without causing too much angst to the reader, highlights the importance of found family and community, and gives all the young LGBT+/queer kids out there another wonderful book to read that’s full of hope, wonder, and joy.
