November & December Recap 2019

Christmas trees with decorationsNovember and December were a bit of a blur with three trips, the busiest time of year at work and a I had a strong desire to knit more than I’ve had in the last few months, so my reading slumped and my blog posting definitely slumped.

This post is a pretty light recap of the past two months with A LOT of photos. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen most of them, but I’ve included a few panoramic views from our trip to Death Valley National Park and a few others that didn’t make the Instagram cut. And if you want a good laugh go check out these photos I took at Badwater Basin in Death Valley since they’re not on here.

Book 590: #Hockey (Check, Please! #1) – Ngozi Ukazu

(Check out my updated 2020 response.)

My heart is glowing after reading this. Seriously—I will probably read it at least 2-3 more times before I surrender it to the library. There’s just something so sweet and innocent about this and I cannot wait to read volume two: Sticks and Scones.

I found this after Sarah over at Sarah Reads to Much released the list of the Morris Award finalists (which she helped select). The blurb and the cover pulled me in so I added it to my list to check out at some point and then it appeared on someone else’s blog and I was like alright I’m in.

Bookish Things

Bookish Things July 2017

As part of reengaging with blogging I took a look at the last few monthly recap posts I did and realized just how full they were! From the general recap to the books and bookish things and culture corner to whatever happened to be on my mind, they were becoming unwieldy.

I haven’t decided the fate of Culture Corner (which I haven’t really done in a while other than in the general recap), but I did decide I would break out my cool Bookish Things I came across on the internet into it’s own post. I feel like a lot of people already do this, but we each have our own perspective. I dare you to find another list that includes vintage gay porn novels and a Jane Austen family quiz! I’m still not 100% how this is going to work out, but for now check out these fascinating tid-bits I’ve stumbled across on the interwebs. I’ve put a little outtake immediately after each piece. April Recap 2017

It’s starting to finally feel like Spring has arrived in New England! Of course I say that and it’s 50°F (10°C) today, so I guess it really is just New England spring. Either way it’s nice to see the sun again, I’ve been able to start walking in the mornings a couple of days a week.

In addition to actually having time to take care of myself physically, walking, I’ve had time to take care of myself mentally and been able to read books again! And you know why? It’s because I started my new job midway through the month. My body was actually in shock the last couple of weeks going from 50-60+ hours a week to working a normal 9-5/40 hour a week really did a number on me. Thankfully I’m adjusting, it also doesn’t hurt I have my own office to decorate (see photo at the very end).

Book 485: Your One Word – Evan Carmichael

I received a copy of this from the publisher* late last year and am only just now getting around to reading a responding to it. There are a couple like that, and you’ve seen a few already. Even though I don’t generally read business books, but did read quite a few last year about managing up, I said yes to this because it sounded a bit less business and a bit more personality than the usual books.

What sucks is that I’m sure what I write later in my response is going to make it sound like I didn’t enjoy the book, but I really did. There were just a few things that weren’t to my #Taste, like that, and I should’ve noticed it from the cover of the book I mean there’s a big example of it on the front cover with #Believe. But honestly, what else could I expect from someone who has a huge social media presence for their first work.
