November & December Recap 2022

Close up of nametag that has Whoops! I didn’t mean for November to just disappear, but with working the polls for elections, a road trip to NC with the puppy, my first set of final papers in grad school while working full time, and my general November/December busyness it just disappeared in a poof.

So, when I finally sat down to write my recap post sometime around the 15th or 16th I just thought “Nah, I’ll combine November and December and give myself a reprieve.” Now, in early January, I’m not sure that was the best idea—thanks past-Geoff, thanks a lot.

Book 938: A Teaspoon of Desire – Alex Danvers

Book cover of "A Teaspoon of Desire" with Amazon Affiliate linkI’ve had this book since January and I really should’ve started it well before I did—not because it was so good, but because it was a slog and I barely met the review deadline.*

I won’t rehash my issues with Riptide Publishing (search the blog, yes I’m still bitter) and as always I’ll give the good and the bad about the book, but TL;DR: this book took WAY too long for me to get through, and maybe it’s just me, but it really should not have.

Book 825: Say Yes to a Mess – Elle Brownlee

Cover art of "Say Yes to a Mess" with Amazon Affiliate linkI ended up grabbing this one after spending a bit of time looking for Two for Trust. I was really hoping to find it at the library so I could read it a year later and see if it held up as the OMG SQUEEEEEE I remember. When I couldn’t find it, I figured I may as well try another one by Brownlee since I enjoyed most of hers I’ve read.

This is Wiley’s story. He had to move back to his hometown when his grandmother got ill and he never left and all of a sudden his childhood best friend, Kit, and his reality tv show with his brother, Holt, are returning to town to film a special episode. Well Holt decides to pretend Wiley is his fiancé and it’s their wedding episode the brothers are there to film.

Book 772: The Remaking of Corbin Wale – Roan Parrish

Book cover of "The Remaking of Corbin Wale" with Amazon Affiliate linkAnd a bonus Hanukkah novel for what was initially my final book in the 12 Books of MM Holiday Romance binge. I’m capping it at 16 because that’s how many I apparently had already downloaded to my Kindle ¯_(ツ)_/¯. I honestly wasn’t paying attention and as I read and removed I added more. Don’t get me wrong there will be more MM romances, but I need to save the hundreds of others for future years, right?

I say this is a bonus Hanukkah novel because I had completely forgotten this one was Hanukkah rather than Christmas based. I saw it on a holiday list, recognized Parrish’s name and had to grab it. I read Better Than People earlier in the year and found it to be beautifully written and have had a copy of In the Middle of Somewhere sitting on my Kindle since then, so yeah of course I grabbed this.

Book 711: Sticks & Scones (Check, Please! #2) – Ngozi Ukazu

Book cover of "Sticks & Scones" with Amazon Affiliate linkI’m so sad this is over. I waited a full year for it, and it was wonderful, but I’m still sad. I re-read each of the two books twice this time to really soak them in and make sure I looked at the artwork and appreciated the dialogue.

I’ll be frank and say that I’m not sure I enjoyed this as much as the first one. I don’t think it was anyone thing and I don’t think that should detract anyone else from reading it, but for me it didn’t have the perfection or the je ne sais quoi (that’s a nod to Jack ;-D) the first book did. There are spoilers after the jump, so don’t read ahead unless you want to know where #Hockey ended.
