Book 893: His Perfect Christmas Gift – Ali Ryecart

I’m legitimately holding my breath for the producers at Hallmark, Netflix, Hulu, etc. to discover the depth and breadth of MM Holiday Romance novels that are already out there ready to be adapted into made for TV movies. I mean GET ON IT.

This is one of those perfectly canned books that could be turned into a movie really quickly. It would require two big sets at most and not a large cast and it’s fully contained within a week. it’s seriously written explicitly to be adapted!

Book 892: Spiced Kisses (Kiss Me #3) – Charlie Novak

After thoroughly enjoying the first two books in Charlie Novak’s Kiss Me series, I was most definitely going to read any follow ups, but I wasn’t expecting there to be a non-twink model on the cover. Hello, body diversity (sort of, I mean he’s still totally ripped, but there’s like actual fur on him!?).

This was a quick read picking up not long after the last book and gives Ben (Aaron’s best friend from Summer Kisses) the story he needed with Ianto, a tattooed and pierced Welshman who plays rugby with him. And I am ALWAYS here for a Welshman in a romance novel, the lilting accent even if I have to make it up in my head, yes please.

Book 870: Before We Disappear – Shaun David Hutchinson

Full disclosure, I only requested this one because of how adorable Wil is on the cover with that book.* I have no idea why, I was just like awwwww and then I read the premise and was sucked in and so glad I requested a copy!

Jack and Wil are magicians’ assistants and they meet at the Seattle World’s Fair in 1909. They’re both in abusive relationships with their magicians and when they find each other they slowly discover that there is so much more in the world than they ever thought and ultimately, they want to experience it together.

Book 866: Under the Whispering Door – T.J. Klune

After loving everything I’ve read by Klune so far it was obvious I was going to read this. And then, when it appeared on NetGalley AND I was approved, I had to sit on it for SO. MANY. MONTHS.* It was 100% worth the wait.

Having not read any of Klune’s “adult” books, this one feels more mature than his superhero books (The Extraordinaries and Flash Fire) or The House in the Cerulean Sea. Most of this is directly because there are no young adult characters and this deals so much with the topics of death and grief. And it brings up so many philosophical ideas about life and death that I’m sure I still missed plenty.

Book 865: The Secret to Superhuman Strength – Alison Bechdel

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one, I just knew I would absolutely read it as I’ve read everything else by Bechdel.

I knew it was nonfiction and that it more than likely was going to chronicle her life. I mean, that’s her on the cover AND she’s a serial chronicler of her life and what she’s experienced. With Fun Home being about her dad and their relationship, and Are You My Mother? about her mom and their relationship, I honestly wasn’t sure where she’d go next.
