Book 710: #Hockey (Check, Please! #1) – Ngozi Ukazu

Book cover of "#Hockey!" with Amazon Affiliate link. After reading this last January, I knew I would revisit it. And thanks to a gift card for Christmas to Barnes and Noble, where I don’t usually shop, I ordered a copy of this and the follow up Sticks & Scones. This was all before coronavirus, and I had Sticks & Scones shipped to my office, where I hadn’t been able to get to it for almost a month after it was delivered 🙁

But when I got it, you know I had to re-read this one. And I loved it as mush as my first read. This time around I spent more time luxuriating in the artwork since I’d read the story previously and didn’t need to focus so much on who’s who and it was worth it.

April Recap 2020

Holy, reading Batman! I read 12 books this month thanks to a hot streak of MM romance novels and I’m astounded at that number.

Aside from reading I’ve spent time knitting, baking, and, over the last week, obsessively playing Animal Crossing. I also dug out my DVD case because I was desperate to watch Pride and Prejudice (2005) and it was only streaming on one service we don’t have.

March Recap 2020

screen shot of a zoom meeting with three attendeesWhat a month . . .

Like so many others I’ve had to transition from going to work five days a week to working from home and it has been an interesting adjustment. If I’m honest, I honestly thought I would be reading more and I have, but it’s mostly news stories and work stuff as at first I overcompensated and then under-compensated as I adjusted, but in general haven’t done a lot of recreational reading. I have spent way too much time on Zoom calls, but at least some have been with friends (right).

Book 636: Bloom – Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau

SO MUCH CUTENESS!!!!!!!!

Seriously though! With the second volume of Ukazu’s Check, Please! being pushed back to April 2020, I needed more adorable gay comics/graphic novels in my life so I went searching at the local library and found this one. I’d seen it at a few bookstores in LGBT young adult sections, but hadn’t given it a second thought.

Bloom is the story of Ari Kyrkos and Hector Galea. It’s a coming of age, coming out, coming together, teen rom-com type book and it was wonderful. You’ve got the meet-cute, the miscommunication, the driving passions of each of them, the drama-point, and then the adorable make-up/happily-ever-after.

Book 590: #Hockey (Check, Please! #1) – Ngozi Ukazu

(Click here to see my updated 2020 response.)

My heart is glowing after reading this. Seriously—I will probably read it at least 2-3 more times before I surrender it to the library. There’s just something so sweet and innocent about this and I cannot wait to read volume two: Sticks and Scones.

I found this after Sarah over at Sarah Reads to Much released the list of the Morris Award finalists (which she helped select). The blurb and the cover pulled me in so I added it to my list to check out at some point and then it appeared on someone else’s blog and I was like alright I’m in.
