Book 852: It Takes Two to Tumble (Seducing the Sedgwicks #1) – Cat Sebastian

Who doesn’t love a little bit of historical romance? I mean these, or at least the hetero versions, are the books I grew up watching my mom read (oh hey Harlequin) and let’s be honest, it was only a matter of time until I dabbled.

This is another one chalked up to I saw a sequel that got my attention (A Gentleman Never Keeps Score) because it had diversity on the cover and the premise was interesting. Add in that book three in the series has a pun-ny title, Two Rogues Make a Right, and I was here for it. Thankfully, my local library came through and after a short wait, I once again dove back into the regency period, this time with a gay lens.

Book 848: The Stolen Suitor (Clyde’s Corner #2) – Eli Easton

So, Easton can tell a story that’s NOT a MM Holiday Romance 😀 I mean, I knew this was true, she clearly has dozens of other works out there, but somehow the only two I’ve read from her were both Holiday Romances.

Going into this one my first instinct that Easton bit off more than she could chew with two parallel romances happening at the same time. I wasn’t 100% correct, but I do think there were some weaknesses in the book because she ultimately split the story line and there were so many subplots.

Book 843: The Midnight Library – Matt Haig

Clearly, I grabbed this one for the title and the fact that it seems everyone is reading it. Seriously, I saw at least three or four copies while on vacation and it’s been popping up sporadically on book blogs since its initial release last year.

I didn’t really have an idea of what it was about so was a little taken aback by the opening line but then was totally on-board when I re-read the back blurb. In essence the book follows Nora as she tries to find the life she wants to live by visiting all her potential selves after attempting suicide.

Book 842: One Man Guy (One Man Guy #1) – Michael Barakiva

I didn’t plan to read this in an afternoon, it just happened 😀 Started it on my lunch break and then just kept going.

At some point last year, I requested a copy of this via NetGalley but was either denied or never heard back and as I was cleaning up my account I saw it listed somewhere and was like “oh that one did sound interesting,” so I checked my library and they had a digital copy and here we are.

Book 839: Playing the Palace – Paul Rudnick

Two in a row that I really wanted to like more than I did. After devouring Red, White & Royal Blue last year and reading various other royal MM Romance novels here and there of course I was going to seek this one out when I heard about it.

The story wasn’t bad, it was well written and would adapt to a movie easily, but where I really struggled was the characters and their voices. I’m not surprised to see it on a list with books like Jay’s Gay Agenda and Yes, Daddy, others which I felt were written more to be adapted for screens than as books themselves. (And full disclosure this did not stop me from adding The Sky Blues to my hold list at the library which is on the same list :-D)
