Book 880: The Geek Who Saved Christmas – Annabeth Albert

I’m serious, she’s written books I was sort of meh about but they weren’t bad, they just weren’t for me and that’s okay. A few months ago I finally joined her Facebook group (Annabeth’s Angels) and have thoroughly enjoyed it and it was how I ended up with an ARC of this adorable Christmas romp.*

It took longer to get to than expected, stupid work, but as soon as I started reading I blazed through it. I want to note right off that I am so impressed with this ARC, it had fewer errors than many final books I read by self-published authors. I expect nothing less from Albert, but this was her first self-published ARC I’ve read even though I’ve read others via her publishers on NetGalley.

Book 871: Just Ash – Sol Santana

Book cover of "Just Ash" with Amazon Affiliate linkWhen I stumbled across this on NetGalley I knew I wanted to read it.* That book cover has Boston (including where I actually live) on it, it’s an own voices LGBTQIA story, and it happens to be released in October and set in Salem, I mean COME ON how could I NOT request it. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to my hopes for it. Maybe they were too high to start because the book started out strong but puttered out by the end.

Just Ash is the story of Ash who has spent their entire life as a boy who happened to have both male and female parts, but in the opening scene gets his period and a series of horrible events follow as he is forced to pretend to be a girl by his parents for some time until he finally sets his foot down.

Book 864: Hold My Hand (One Man Guy #2) – Michael Barakiva

Book cover of "Hold My Hand" with Amazon Affiliate linkThis was an adorable angsty follow-up to Barakiva’s One Man Guy. I feel like he could choose an emotion and keep going with Alek and Ethan exploring what that emotion means to the two of them and how it changes their relationship.

Hold My Hand picks up roughly five months after the end of One Man Guy, and Alek is facing fears of how and when they’ll take their relationship to the next level physically and honestly, it’s endearing and horrifying and hilarious all at the same time. (Seriously, read the second quote in the more quotes. DIED.)  The rest of this will contain spoilers so stay out if you don’t want to know the main plot point and what happens.

Book 859: Subtle Blood (The Will Darling Adventures #3) – K.J. Charles

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t want it to end, especially after reading Charles’ short story “To Trust Man on His Oath” that takes place between this and The Sugared Game. The short story provided Will and Kim the much-needed space to discuss who they are separately and who they think they want to be together.

And, thankfully, I’ll get to visit with Will and Kim one last time when I finally Charles’ short story/epilogue “How Goes the World”. I just need to read Proper English and Think of England first which share a world with The Will Darling Adventures! (Oh no, more books to read :-D)

Book 852: It Takes Two to Tumble (Seducing the Sedgwicks #1) – Cat Sebastian

Book cover of "It Takes Two to Tumble" with Amazon Affiliate linkWho doesn’t love a little bit of historical romance? I mean these, or at least the hetero versions, are the books I grew up watching my mom read (oh hey Harlequin) and let’s be honest, it was only a matter of time until I dabbled.

This is another one chalked up to I saw a sequel that got my attention (A Gentleman Never Keeps Score) because it had diversity on the cover and the premise was interesting. Add in that book three in the series has a pun-ny title, Two Rogues Make a Right, and I was here for it. Thankfully, my local library came through and after a short wait, I once again dove back into the regency period, this time with a gay lens.
