A life of books . . .
It’s finally starting to feel like Spring again here in Boston. We really thought winter would never end and after the flooding last month we didn’t think the city would ever dry out either!
I’m still trying to figure out where April went, but with a big even at work, PAX East, finishing unpacking and the weather starting to clear up it’s no wonder it flew by.
That photo to the right pretty much sums up most of March for me.
We had more snow and rain this month than I swear we’ve had in all of last year. The worst part about it was that they were back to back nor’easters with three in three weeks and flooding happened within a mile of our house. If you can’t tell that photo is the ocean high enough up that we can’t make our usual walk around a big loop at Castle Island. There were other parts of the walkway that were flooded but that end bit was the most astounding – usually there’s 5-8 feet from the water to the top of the stone barriers which you can sort of see to the left. I’m old, time flies and it’s getting faster. We’re 2/3 of the way done with 2017 and I’m still like but what about 2016. I’m not ready for 2018, but it’s coming at me like a freight train so I may as well get ready for it right?
I finally (five months later) got most of my office at work decorated and of course it was bookish themed, see photo above. I have one last blank wall I’m going to put travel detail photos on but I need to get them printed.
So far 2015 is turning out to be one hell of a roller coaster. Every time something great happens it’s like there’s someone waiting to smack you in the face before you get too excited or stay happy for too long.
The major positives are 1) we’re 1/4 of the way through the year so we’re past the “Monday” of 2015. 2) We beat the record so all the snow was worth it. And 3) Most of the snow has melted in Boston (even though it snowed this week), and we’re finally starting to see signs of spring including a couple of 50+ (10C) degree days over the past two weeks and the sun is out a lot more than it has been. It never ceases to amaze me how an extra 10-15 minutes of sunlight a day can seriously improve your attitude! As the weather has been so iffy lately I’ve spent a lot of time in coffee shops and curled up reading books, and thus the starting photo. (Yes that’s a spoon pushed into the cement.)
Another month gone. I know they say the years go by faster the older you get, but this is getting ridiculous. Maybe I was just too busy, or maybe I just don’t have a grasp on time with so much snow covering everything, but 2015 is 1/6th of the way over and I’ve no idea what happened.
February was a rough month personally and professionally. It’s never a good sign when one aspect of your life drains into the other aspect in negative ways, and I honestly couldn’t tell you which bled into which more, but either way it was just a gross month. But that being said I did have an excellent last weekend of the month when I went skiing with my sister and a bunch of friends for a belated birthday and Christmas present! (See photos below.) The photo directly above is of me in South Boston standing on a snow bank. I could touch the One Way sign and was taller than the street light. Thankfully, snow is starting to melt, but we’re LESS THAN TWO INCHES from the all time record (107.9) and I can’t help but think, “Bring it on!”
