Book 871: Just Ash – Sol Santana

When I stumbled across this on NetGalley I knew I wanted to read it.* That book cover has Boston (including where I actually live) on it, it’s an own voices LGBTQIA story, and it happens to be released in October and set in Salem, I mean COME ON how could I NOT request it. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to my hopes for it. Maybe they were too high to start because the book started out strong but puttered out by the end.

Just Ash is the story of Ash who has spent their entire life as a boy who happened to have both male and female parts, but in the opening scene gets his period and a series of horrible events follow as he is forced to pretend to be a girl by his parents for some time until he finally sets his foot down.

Book 868: Sailor Proof (Shore Leave #1) – Annabeth Albert

This is the very first Annabeth Albert ARC that I’ve read!* (I think, there may have been one more in her True Colors series, but who cares I got one!) Generally I’m bogged down in other stuff and I don’t realize when Albert’s releasing new works, but after joining her Facebook group and signing up for her newsletter I’m much more on the ball than I have been in the past!

The only downside of reading this as an ARC is that I have to wait for the next book FOREVER!!!! I’m so used to blazing through her series, that I actually forewent reading the teaser for book two, Sink or Swim, because the publication date is SO FAR AWAY!!!!!!!

Book 860: Obie is Man Enough – Schuyler Bailar

When I saw this on NetGalley I knew I was going to request it.* I remember the news stories of Bailar joining the Harvard University swim team and being the first trans athlete to compete on any NCAA D1 Men’s team and when I saw he wrote this I knew I wanted to read it.

The bulk of my LGBT reading is either MM Romance of some sort or nonfiction history/politics. There are a few Sapphic romances and a few with trans characters mixed in, but for the most part it’s not very diverse when it comes to reading the entire rainbow so I was super happy when the publisher approved my request!

July Recap 2021

This month started in Aruba where the weather was perfect, the breeze was constant and I was reading books 6-8 hours a day while hanging out in or at a pool right on the water.

It ended in Boston where the weather has been for lack of a better term scattered-at-best: heat wave, a bunch of big thunderstorms, rain and under 60°F, foggy as hell, smoke clouds from the wildfires on the West Coast and Canada, I mean seriously!

June Recap 2021

I am currently sitting poolside in Aruba waiting for the towel hut to open so we can reserve our chairs for the day. It is luxurious.

If things had gone to plan we would’ve been somewhere in Europe right now on a cruise ship, but they didn’t so I’m on this ridiculously beautiful and temperate island averaging a book every other day and getting a seriously nice tan 😀 We also spent a long weekend up in Maine earlier in the month for Tim’s actual birthday, so this month has just been travel travel travel.
