November & December Recap 2019

Christmas trees with decorationsNovember and December were a bit of a blur with three trips, the busiest time of year at work and a I had a strong desire to knit more than I’ve had in the last few months, so my reading slumped and my blog posting definitely slumped.

This post is a pretty light recap of the past two months with A LOT of photos. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen most of them, but I’ve included a few panoramic views from our trip to Death Valley National Park and a few others that didn’t make the Instagram cut. And if you want a good laugh go check out these photos I took at Badwater Basin in Death Valley since they’re not on here.

Book 663: The Burning Page (The Invisible Library #3) – Genevieve Cogman

This is my final book of 2019, it took me a month to read (I got distracted with travelling and knitting) and two weeks to post about it—oh well.

Similar to The Masked City, this book starts off with a kidnapping, this time it’s Irene. Well it doesn’t start off with one, it actually starts off with a trip to another highly ordered world (think Nazi’s) and then when Irene has to take a quick solo trip to the Library she gets kidnapped.

This also wasn’t the Dragon companion book I was hoping we’d get after the last books deep foray into the Fae’s political underworld. Instead we were back to the big-bad Alberich for this story. That being said, it does sound like the Dragon’s are still coming with a side comment from one of Kai’s relatives (attendees?), but I won’t hold my breath.

Book 662: The Masked City (The Invisible Library #2) – Genevieve Cogman

Well that was an unexpected month hiatus. Sometimes I forget just how busy December is at my workplace and this was my first December fully in the job knowing what all I would be doing so I didn’t get to read as much or even post responses to books!

This is the second book in Cogman’s The Invisible Library series and it was pretty good. I didn’t think it was as good as the first, but it was a fun quick read. Instead of focusing so much on the workings of the Library (even though the first one didn’t really that much other than to say how mysterious they were), this book tells us a lot more about the Fae and gives us a glimpse at the Dragons.

Falling Leaves & Turning Pages

With the fall leaves almost gone and daylight saving time behind us in the US, I thought it’d be a good time to look at some of my favorite fall reads. The nights are getting longer and the weather cooler, so what better thing is there to do than to curl up with a good book and read for those few extra hours of darkness? I missed the boat on Halloween reads, but I’ve included a bonus list at the end of some great Halloween reads!

October Recap 2019

It’s fall y’all! Although, in New England it’s rapidly approaching winter with how fast the leaves are changing. We made what has apparently become our annual trip up to Northern(ish) Maine to spend a quite weekend getting ready for all the holiday travel and to of course see the leaves changing colors. It was well worth the drive even if the house we rented was just past the peak leaf-peeping line. We stayed in Rangeley, Maine in the lakes region and visited UMaine Farmington on one of the days we were up there.
