A life of books . . .
Eight. Years. That’s how long I’ve been blogging almost continuously.
I have written about every book I’ve read in the last seven of those eight years because that first year was a bit iffy. When was the last time any of us did anything for eight years? I guess school would qualify, but I got summers off with that. With the exception of a couple of unplanned hiatuses this has been going strong for EIGHT YEARS. [Don’t you love that nod to sports – I’m hip right?]
If I ever write a novel I plan to write it like a lifetime. Super slow where every day feels like an eternity and have it evolve overtime into crazy fast super hectic chapters like how fast time seems to be going.
I remember when it used to feel like it took ages to walk the less than 10 minutes to my best friends house and now 10 minutes goes by in what feels like seconds. AKA once again where in the hell did June go.
I’m going to re-post this. I recently received a series of emails from yet another ARC amalgamation site/processor who are charging authors to share their reviews. The emails are unprofessional (purple font and just poorly written) and the website is atrocious. I would not pay to have my book on their site. I will say they are honest in what they are trying to do, so not all of this applies, but seriously people come on.
I had no plans to blog today, but after an email I received sometime in the last 48 hours I wanted to get on my soapbox and write a little PSA. I’ll get back to semi-regular blogging with Stephen King’s The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) on Monday.
I am not going to name and shame (Vlogger hotel scandal article Daily Mail link), but if you received the email you’ll know what I’m talking about. Please do not name and shame as that’s just more promotion for them. That is not the goal, this is just free advice for authors and bloggers so take it or leave it. Dear Authors and Fellow Book Bloggers,
Authors, you want your books read, right? Bloggers we want our sites read, right? It’s natural—it’s why we do what we do.
Authors, you desperately want to write the next best-selling sensation and bloggers we all want to be the one to say: “I discovered that before it was big.” And we all want our names to be recognized, I get it. We’re all content creators, we’re all content consumers, we’re marketers through our books or our blogs, we’re all hustling to make an impact in the larger world. Why else would we be doing this so publicly?
Another year older, another year wiser — or something like that. Going into this year, I didn’t think anything could top last year, but boy was I wrong. Long story short, I’m still here.
I haven’t 100% worked out all the kinks when it comes to blogging, but I feel like I’m making progress back to my normal. Every time I hit schedule or post, I once again start to feel that thrill of the unknown and the limitless potential I used to feel on a regular basis. Somewhere in the last two years, I started to lose that thrill. Overwhelmingly, it was real life weighing me down, growing up sucks.
