Book 888: A Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility (Love, Austen #6) – Anyta Sunday

This wasn’t the perfect ending to Sunday’s Love, Austen retellings, but it was a damn good one. Like the last five there was no doubt I would accept the ARC when it came in (and I was a little worried when I didn’t see it even though its publication date was fast approaching)!*

We met Noah and Zach Dashwood in one of the previous novels (I believe Finley Embraces Heart and Home) and I have to assume we met Brandy/Brandon and Wade at some point too, but no clue honestly. For some reason, I guess because the names were great cognates like some of the other books, it took me way too long to remember who Zach and Noah were compared to Elinor and Marianne from the OG Sense and Sensibility. Once I got that sorted, I was all set.

Book 887: If This Gets Out – Sophie Gonzales & Cale Dietrich

My little closeted teenage heart would’ve died to read something like this in the late-90s/early-00s. So, when I saw it on NetGalley I requested it IMMEDIATELY, the publisher approved, and I have been sitting on it for months.*

I know I’ve said it before and I’ll keep on saying it—I am SO jealous of all the teens today getting to see themselves in books like this. I mean hell I enjoy them and I am WELL outside the target demographic for these.

Book 882: Snowbody Like You – Ariella Zoelle

Oof—I was not a fan of this one. It had so much potential but just fell flat for me. I’m glad I passed on the review request when I first got it, but somehow forgot about it and grabbed it from Kindle Unlimited when I needed a book to fill a gap between review copies.

Snowbody Like You has a great premise, aka all the Hallmark movies ever, the two protagonists, Rigby and Jude meet at the airport, get snowed in and have to share a room, true love (or humping like rabbits) happens and they live happily ever after.

Book 879: Mr. Jingle Bells (Home of the Holidays #3) – Leta Blake

Three books later, I’ve finally gotten around to the ARC that I requested because it was an opposites attract fake boyfriend story—of course I was going to request it.*

This is the story of Walker, boring frat boy business man whose mom tried to set him up with Casey from Mr. Frosty Pants, and Ashton, glamorous social media rockstar whose sister tried to set him up with Joel from Mr. Frosty Pants. Since that book ended, Casey and Joel have married and Casey, Ashton and Walker have started a marketing company.

Book 877: Twice in a Lifetime (Sheltered Connections #1) – R.M. Neill

Another ARC, another gamble. After reading the blurb on this one with two characters with emotional baggage and growing together out of their traumatic pasts, I requested a copy.*

What I didn’t realize was that the entire book was going to take place in roughly a week, which is one of my biggest pet peeves. Forewarning, my response is going to sound a lot more negative than it is, but it’s because Neill has a lot of potential I think she just missed the mark by just a smidge on SO. MANY. THINGS. in this book. One reviewer on Goodreads went so far as to say, “DNF. The only interesting thigs in this book were the conversations Micha had with the dogs he groomed.” While I agree with this, I wouldn’t go quite that far, but it was  a definite miss for me.
