Book 997: Schooling the Jock (Nerds vs Jocks #1) – Eli Easton & Tara Lain

After finishing The Hot Cannolis by Eli Easton and Tara Lain and knowing I didn’t want to jump into a more serious novel. I searched on Kindle Unlimited for a nerd/jock MM Romance and this series popped up. When I noticed the authors, there was no question about reading it so I dove right in.

Schooling the Jock is a twist on your classic enemies to lovers crossed with the nerd/jock trope and I am here for it. On the one hand, you’ve got Dobbs, the head of the university’s quiz bowl team who is openly gay and smart as hell, and on the other, you’ve got Jesse, the school’s prized running back (I think) who happens to be smart as hell and closeted.

Book 988: Snow in Montana (Montana #4) – R.J. Scott

Not going to lie, this and the next, Second Chance Ranch, are probably my two favorites from this series. I think this one is up there because it’s a one because it’s a holiday romance and is super meta about holiday romance movies and I am 100% here for it even though I read this on a tropical vacation in the middle of February 😀 It’s also the first that doesn’t have a main character directly connected to the ranch.

There is still fallout occurring from Adam and Justin’s kidnapping that was revealed in the first few books, but I blocked it out because of this sweet romance. It helped that more of this romance took place off the ranch than some of the others and this story seemed to be more tightly written.

Book 766: A Guy for Christmas – K.C. Wells

A Guy for Christmas is #7 in my MM Holiday Romance binge and I grabbed it because I read a couple by Wells earlier in the year that I enjoyed (My Fair Brady and The Senator’s Secret) and a couple I was sort of meh on (Under the Covers and Out of the Shadows).

This cover reminds me so much of the Tucker Springs books I read back when I first started the blog. Seriously, go check out a few of the covers. I mean I know the covers don’t really vary that widely across MM romance novels, but it’s kind of eerie how similar this is to those. I think it’s the color of the fade outs.

Book 681: Lab Partners – Mora Montgomery

What this books needs more than anything, is a good editor: there were continuity errors, there were issues with over description and there were issues with dialogue. And the saddest part is the story and characters were solid enough, but the editing really let it down. [Some of it may have been fixed in the final version of the book, but if it were me I would not have released this to reviewers with these types of errors.]

I requested a copy of this book from NetGalley based on the blurb and the cover.* I mean cute cover, adorable blurb about high school first romance, who wouldn’t want to read it right?

Book 654: Law and Addiction – Mike Papantonio

Unlike, Off the Grid, this book was worth saying yes to the publicist.* This book was engaging, a fast read, and had characters that were written well and believably realistic from the newly minted idealist lawyer Jake Rutledge to the West Virginia county chief prosecutor Eva Whistler, all of these characters felt real.

Law and Addiction is the story of Jake Rutledge and his battle against the opioid epidemic and big pharma after his twin brother dies of an opioid overdose. And, honestly, you couldn’t get more timely with a book release with all of the news stories about Purdue Pharma (Google News search) and the crackdowns in Boston after a corrections officer was attacked via Boston 25 News.
