Book 1,021: Only One Bed (Love on the Ice #1) – Keira Andrews

I’m not sure if I would say Keira Andrews is the Queen of Christmas for me, but she really does bring it when she writes holiday themed MM Romance novels. Every time I go to read one, she has a new one and if they’re always fun, relatively low angst and swoon worthy.  Only One Bed is a friends to lovers, one bed/forced proximity, bisexual awakening novel and as per usual I am here for it.

Sam and Etienne have been friends since they were children. Etienne is a competitive couples ice dancer and is trying to make the Olympic team. I can’t remember what Sam did, but he’s at a lot of the same competitions because his older brother Henry is one of the best singles skaters in Canada (and we get his novel with Kiss and Cry, I mean come on read the last quote we all knew what was going to happen).

Book 1,020: Not So Silent Night – H.L. Day

This has been on my Kindle for at least a year, if not two. I think I added it to my list when I went through the “How many MM Holiday Romances can I read in a month?” phase. Either way it sat there until now and I was flipping through looking for a light hearted read after the dense nonfiction of The West.

Starting out, I really wasn’t sure if it was going to be a hate read to finish it or if I was going to actually start to enjoy it. We start off with Xander, a spoiled elitist model who really annoyed me, but he kind of gets his comeuppance with a really bad ski injury and his dick of a boyfriend’s response. We then pick up with Ferris, who as much as I ultimately enjoyed his character, is an over the top nurse who takes a hit right as things are starting to look up! But this allows for the meet-cute and the story runs from there.

Book 994: Ice Angels (Bethesda Barracudas #3) – Ryan Taylor & Joshua Harwood

In this book, we find out that not only is Drew, a captain of an opposition team, gay and has been for the entire series (we met him in The New Next One) but he’s been in a long-term committed relationship with Cleeves, another forward from the Bethesda Barracuda, for most of the series!?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not mad we didn’t know because everyone comes out in their own timeframe, but I was a little like wait what going into this one!? There were quite a few flashbacks, but most of the novel was spent with Drew and Cleeves trying to figure out how they could be together when their teams were halfway across the country and their travel schedules were always in opposition.

Book 982: You’re a Mean One, Matthew Prince (Boy Meets Boy #2) – Timothy Janovsky

As I mentioned in my review of Never Been Kissed, I originally planned to read this but when I found out it was the second in a (now I know unconnected) series, I had to start with the first! Thankfully, my local library had digital copies of both and I was able to download them and jump right in.

The premise of this novel is that the very wealthy Matthew pulls a ridiculous stunt and his parents send him to live with his grandparents for the holidays to let the press cool off and teach him a lesson. There he meets, down-t0-earth scholarship student Hector who has no time or patience for spoiled little rich boy shenanigans.

Book 976: Baking Me Crazy (Apple Meadows #2) – Catherine Cloverdale

OOOF. You know when they tell you not to judge/choose a book by its cover? That 100% applies to this one. When this landed in my inbox, I thought, ” Oh, that’s a decently professional cover, the model is attractive, and the font isn’t too amateur,” so I requested a copy.* AND then a few weeks later when I sat down to read it, I realized it was the second book in a series, the first was Apple-y Ever After, by an author that I barely made it through the first because there were so many issues.

So, I thought okay, maybe she hired a copy editor and a proofreader to fix a lot of the minor (but persistent) issues I found throughout, or at the very least read the book out loud so the dialogue was less stilted and the passages flowed naturally.

NOPE.
