February Recap 2016

2016 02-15 Cold FebruaryGoodbye and good riddance February! I don’t generally hate months, but February this year really got to me which is saying something when last year we had snow storm after snow storm. I think the lack of light took its toll.

Usually it doesn’t get to me, but I think because I’ve been sick for more than half of the month I’m just done with February. Thankfully, the days are getting longer and the weather is allegedly looking warmer. There have been a couple of days where I’ve been able to get out and go for a walk. I’ll even say (for now) I’m ready to deal with the allergies over the cold I’ve had this month. BLAH!

January Recap 2016

2016 01-22 100K VisitorsI know I start out every monthly recap talking about how hard it is to believe that the month is gone, but we’re already a twelfth of the way through 2016! And next year is the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter. I’m not ready everyone, I’m just not ready.

The Big Blog News of the month is that I passed 100,000 all time views on the 22nd. I’m still impressed, I didn’t think I would stick with this for anywhere near as long as I have. With the scheduled and draft posts coming, I’ve already passed 700 posts and I feel like I’m picking up speed rather than slowing down in my old blogging age.

Workout Wednesday – August 2014

2014 08-06 Running and BikingI’m posting this a little later than usual as I wanted to make sure I survived my first bike ride to work! As I mentioned on my other blog, Now Entering Adulthood, I’ve been plagued with injuries and laziness over the past three-to-four months. I’d love to blame it all on the injuries, but I just can’t.

After finally seeing a doctor and getting the okay (with some minor restrictions), I had my first 5k since April at the end of July. It was the Jerry Garcia Memorial 5k, so you know it would be fun and it was, but it showed me two things. The first is that the recovery from my ankle injury is going to take quite a bit of time and the second is that my running has really suffered over the past few months. (The left picture up there makes me look like I’m moving a lot faster than I am, really I was covering my face so Caroline wouldn’t take a picture of me!)

30 x 30: #2 – Take a day hike

2014 06-28 Start of the HikeIf you want to find out how in or out of shape you are, go for a hike. Seriously, I knew I’d been lazy recently, but holy hell! I was hoping to cross four things off my list this week but only got to three, but YAY! Nine out of thirty (30%) done.

I’m still not sure that the sign was right, because our trackers definitely said longer than 2.5 miles, but I’m glad I did it! My friend Peter hiked a bunch of mountains last year and asked me a bunch of times and I always said no. When I was making my list I knew I needed to add it to the list and I did, but sheesh it was freaking exhausting. It was about a two-hour drive up and we hiked Mt. Tecumseh, 4003 ft/1,220m in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and it took a little under four hours (up and down).

30 x 30: #1 – Run A Sub 36:00 5k

2014 04-06 - Hello Sub-36min 5kTwo down, twenty-eight to go! I didn’t think I would be crossing the physical ones off quite this rapidly, but no complaints from me! No idea what will be next, but probably not one of the physical ones.

To be completely honest, this was one of those that I knew for a fact I would get to, but I honestly thought it would be later in the year. I’ve kept at it and coming in under 36:00 was a bit of a surprise. This 5k was a part of the Fool’s Dual in Gloucester, MA and it was a beautiful course. My friends Hayley and Caroline (from my first 5k in December) signed up to run the half-marathon so Nick, Caroline’s fiancé, and I signed up for the 5k. We then convinced Caitrin to run the half-marathon and Dan to run the 5k from our trivia team to join us!
