Book 988: Snow in Montana (Montana #4) – R.J. Scott

Not going to lie, this and the next, Second Chance Ranch, are probably my two favorites from this series. I think this one is up there because it’s a one because it’s a holiday romance and is super meta about holiday romance movies and I am 100% here for it even though I read this on a tropical vacation in the middle of February 😀 It’s also the first that doesn’t have a main character directly connected to the ranch.

There is still fallout occurring from Adam and Justin’s kidnapping that was revealed in the first few books, but I blocked it out because of this sweet romance. It helped that more of this romance took place off the ranch than some of the others and this story seemed to be more tightly written.

Book 987: A Cowboy’s Home (Montana #3) – R.J. Scott

I wasn’t too surprised with this novel continuing the trend of being set in the West on a ranch, but not necessarily being a Western Romance, but it opened a lot darker than I thought it would! I’m talking full-on fight scenes and murder for survival! And there’s nothing wrong with that Scott jumped right in and grabbed my attention and kept me hooked for the first half of the novel.

A Cowboy’s Home tells us the story of Ethan’s missing brother, Justin, and where he’s been ever since his disappearance. It also tells the story of Sam, the mouthy flirty cook at Crooked Tree Ranch.

Book 986: The Rancher’s Son (Montana #2) – R.J. Scott

This book took a different turn from what I expected from a series set in Montana after the first book. For one thing, there were a lot fewer cowboys and horses.

This book focuses on the second family of the three that have a stake in Crooked Tree Ranch. Ethan, the older brother who is a cop, has spent the last decade looking for his brother, Justin, and his brother’s best friend, Adam, who went missing when they were younger. He’s never given up hope and all of a sudden he’s called to Chicago and finds Adam who has no memories of him or anyone else the only words he said were “Ethan” and “Crooked Tree Ranch.”

Book 985: Crooked Tree Ranch (Montana #1) – R.J. Scott

I swear I’ve either read this book before or read something very similar to it. I checked the publication date and it was after I started the blog and was documenting every book. So I’m not sure why this and the second book were SO FAMILIAR. Or maybe I started it and didn’t finish it so it never made it to my list, but either way, it was really eerie reading the first two in this series.

I grabbed this series from Kindle Unlimited right before our February trip to the Dominican Republic. I knew I didn’t want to read non-fiction because school is so full of it now and nothing on my shelf spoke to me, so here I ended up.

Book 983: Unexpecting – Jen Bailey

When someone in the marketing department reached out about this back in December, I wasn’t I was going to read it as I’d had a very stressful fall with a new puppy and school and work, but the blurb stayed in my mind, and after a couple of days deliberation I finally said yes.* I mean I had months to read it so may as well say yes and then plan around my schedule.

Unexpecting was unexpectedly (hardy har har) charming. Was it perfect? No, but that’s okay. It was a fun easy-to-read debut with unique and memorable characters (main and supporting). The book brought a lot of emotions out of me from hating and then understanding Maxie’s parents to my wanting to shake some sense into Ben but also wanting to give him a big hug for trying so hard and finally seeing reality. It was definitely a whirlwind.
