What a month! It started with us getting Covid from our trip to Texas (not bad cases, just knocked us out for a few days), was immediately followed by my graduate school program starting in the middle of makeup events at work from the last two years, with a birthday trip for Tim (thankfully drivable this year to Upstate NY), and the busiest time of the year at work in general for me (end of the fiscal year).

Book 948: Patricia Wants to Cuddle – Samantha Allen
What a wonderfully weird novel. When this landed in my inbox from the publisher I first thought WTF is that because the cover art screams pulp fiction and as much as I find those hilarious I’m not usually drawn to them. However, I’d decided I wanted to expand my LGBT novel repertoire, and knowing this featured lesbian/bisexual female protagonists I said sure why not.*
Billed as a satire of The Bachelor, Patricia Wants to Cuddle takes place in the final two weeks of The Catch‘s season with four female finalists and the catch going to the San Juan islands off the coast of Washington state. While it is that, it’s also a final girl thriller novel with murder and mystery and urban legends aplenty to keep the reader engaged.

Book 947: Hot Pursuit (The Hot Cannolis #3) – Eli Easton
It was a little surprising to see that this one was only written by Eli Easton but I found out that what IÂ believe will be the final book in the series, Hot Lips, will be authored by Tara Lain. That being said, it didn’t stop me from requesting this one when it landed in my inbox!* I knew Rick’s story would be good and it was definitely good.
Hot Pursuit is the story of Rick and John. Rick is Mike (from Hot Seat) and Donny’s (from Hot Wings) uncle and is a homicide detective and recently came out to some of his family in support of Donny. He’s assigned a new partner, John, who has a chip on his shoulder for some reason and caught Rick’s attention even before he was assigned as his partner.

Book 946: Just by Looking at Him – Ryan O’Connell
If I’m 100% honest I first was drawn to this book because of the cover art, a cropped version of Henry Scott Tuke’s The Critics (Wikiart link). Tuke does water like no one else and they pumped up the blues and greens on the cover.
Then when you add the title of the painting to what the main character does for a living: mind blown. So THEN I realized this was the same Ryan O’Connell who created, wrote, and starred in Special on Netflix, and of course, I requested a copy.*

Book 945: Rediscovered (Do-Over #2) – E.M. Denning
When this landed in my inbox, it was a case do I really want to continue the series, is it really going to be the end of the world if I just let it go?* I didn’t feel super strong in either direction after reading Rearranged.
I sort of wanted more information about what went down between Rowan, the first book’s protagonist, and Harrison, this book’s, parents because it wasn’t given due justice in the first book and it received even less play in this one unless you count Harrison being fired and Rowan quitting after the main drama of this book.
