Book 964: The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers – Adam Sass

I requested and received this up back in June in a NetGalley binge when I went through and looked at all the upcoming Young Adult LGBT fiction.* I loved the cover and the concept so thought why not? I missed the review deadline by a few weeks even though I started it with plenty of time. Thanks, school and life for getting in the way.

This is the story of Micah, Grant, and Elliot. Micah is the protagonist who has a really popular Insta account where he draws fantastical versions of the boys he crushes on around Chicago. One of those boys ends up being Grant and the first half of the story is Micah trying to find Grant again, his Cinderfella who disappeared off the train. He’s joined by his BFF’s other BFF Elliot, who has his issues but brings joy, light, and support to Micah’s journey.

Book 963: I Hear the Sunspot (I Hear the Sunspot #1) – Yuki Fumino

I grabbed this from my local library before going on vacation because lately, I’ve been reading a lot of chapter-based manga works on WebComics. I wasn’t sure my internet would be good enough to read those so wanted a quick read between other books!

What I hadn’t planned on was for it to align so closely to the previous book, Art Therapy, featuring a character with a disability and I also didn’t plan on half reading a book further in this series (Limit Vol. 2) and having NO clue what was going on because the titles for this series just aren’t that great.

Book 959: The Dove in the Belly – Jim Grimsley

When I finished re-reading Dream Boy back in May, I did a quick search to see what Jim Grimsley was up to these days and stumbled across this upcoming release. I reached out to the publisher for a copy and crossed my fingers it wasn’t going to be as traumatic or emotionally draining as the others I’ve read.*

The Dove in the Belly is the story of Ronny and Ben. It takes place on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus in the 1970s and that’s the main reason I wanted to read this, Grimsley went to UNC and having it set on the UNC campus intrigued me as I also went to UNC and remember some of the history around the early LGBT organizations and experiences on campus.

Book 958: My Love Mix-Up! (Vol. 4) – Wataru Hinekure & Aruko

I’m STILL squeeing about this adorable manga! I wish I could read Japanese because they’re already on Volume 9! I also just found out there’s a TV show version so I may try and figure that out soon. Mostly, I’m just glad my library had as many as they did and have my fingers crossed they’ll keep getting them as they’re released.

In this book, we have our first drama of the series, outside of the comedies of error. Aoki freaks out because of how nonchalant Ida is in telling people they’re dating. It comes from a well-meaning place, he doesn’t want either of them to get bullied, but it’s totally misplaced.

Book 957: My Love Mix-Up! (Vol. 3) – Wataru Hinekure & Aruko

This series continues to be so freakin’ adorable and wholesome and I’m not going to be waiting for the future volumes! The next one comes out later this fall with so many others still needing

Again continuing the story right after the last volume ended we find Aoki and Ida with Aida and Hashimoto and all their classmates on a winter ski trip. Aoki and Hashimoto are relegated to the D class because they’re so bad and Ida and Aida are in the A class.
