Q1 Recap 2025 (Jan-Mar)

How in the hell are we already through the first quarter of 2025? I’m still processing the end of last year with all the crazy milestones, but time keeps marching on I guess.

We took our annual trek to warmer climates in mid-March and it was a wonderful escape from the cold and dreary New England winter (the photo is from St. Thomas).

I also kept up with my new knitting podcast and even found some of my reading mojo that’s been missing since I got deep into my degree in 2023-2024, so YAY!

Q3 & Q4 Recap 2024

This is a VERY quick post to say that I’m slowly on my way back to book blogging. I doubt I’ll ever be as prolific as I was before, but I am slowly getting back into the habit after an almost 6 month break after completing my degree. I didn’t plan to take the break, but I did and now I’m slowly catching up on posts from last year and trying to figure out the future of this blog.

The biggest thing book wise is I’m slowly transitioning from Goodreads to Storygraph! So go add me as I figure it out 🙂

With over 1,000 reviews to clean up, it’s going to be a while. I also have no idea what I’m doing over there, so it’ll be interesting. Along with this I deleted my Twitter/X and Tumblr accounts, I’m streamlining.

CRWM #09: Dr Mütter’s Marvels

CRWM09For episode nine of Come Read With Me, my friend Jess joined me to discuss Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz’ Dr. Mütter’s Marvels: A True Tale of Intrigue and Innovation at the Dawn of Modern Medicine. As usual, there were plenty of tangents including a five-minute tangent (you’re welcome, I edited it from 20) about Jane Austen fan fiction. Maybe I should just turn this into a Come Read Jane Austen with me podcast! (Don’t worry, I won’t.)

I was apparently super fidgety during the recording so I’m super sorry about all the background noise!

Professional Development

Building Relationships

This is the second follow-up piece in my series of why my blog and online presence will enhance future career opportunities. For the introduction click here and for part one about technology click here.

2015 08-27 90k Is A Lot!I mentioned this in passing last week, but one of the most incredible things about blogging and social media is the ability to build relationships with people. Not only those you see on a day-to-day basis, but also those you’ve never met before.

As I write this post, I’ve recently surpassed 90,000 views on my blog. This may seem small in the scheme of things on the internet, but it was still exciting to me. Every time I post something it is pushed out to my social media network and blog subscribers, that’s over 1,800 contacts. And yet these are just statistics. They are not relationships.

CRWM #07: The Adventures of Captain Underpants

CRWM07For episode seven of Come Read With Me, I was joined by my friend Dalton. He chose The Adventures of Captain Underpants (link to my review) and I am glad he did. This isn’t a book I would have gone out of my way, but it’s one of those books that is as much a part of pop culture as any cartoon show I grew up watching! Make sure to check out his Tumblr The Whet Whitch Whistler and follow him on Twitter @barleypoop.

I think we kept it PG-13 enough, not to warrant an explicit label, but suffice to say we discussed whether or not Dav Pilkey was a bit of a pervert, whether The Adventures of Captain Underpants could be Fifty Shades of Grey for nine-year-olds, AND whether or not Dalton writes fan-fiction or erotica. (Inquiring mines want to know!) To make it even more exciting, I may have even compared Dalton and his sister, Hayley, to the Brontës. Now that is praise from me for sure!
