January Recap 2022

What a snow month! I’m starting this post with the “dusting” (aka 8-10 inches we got in mid-January and I’ll end it with the two-plus feet we got with the official blizzard this past weekend.

I spent more time knitting (and watching knitting fibercasts) instead of reading, but managed to eke out a few books, including #900 which is still baffling considering I wasn’t sure I’d stick with this thing for even a year, let alone coming up on 12!

Books and Bookish Things
I finished out the month with book 900, a re-read of Wuthering Heights which I thoroughly enjoyed even if I struggled to get into it! The stormy weather really helped. That and finally getting my pre-ordered copy of Heartstopper, Vol. 4 really put the pressure on me. I’ve pushed it out so I can try and get some other books read before I get to the re-read of that series 😀

  1. The Schoolmaster’s Spy (Winsford Green #3) – Ruby Moone
  2. A Christmas Miracle (Winsford Green #4) – Ruby Moone
  3. If You Love Something – Jayce Ellis
  4. Trust with a Chaser (Rainbow Cove #1) – Annabeth Albert
  5. Year One (Chronicles of the One #1) – Nora Roberts
  6. Wuthering Heights – Emily Brontë

On social media I came across this from Colossal which is always great for a good bookish craft project or inspired artwork:

Crafting Corner
As I said, I spent most of the month knitting. I finally sewed in the ends and blocked my first sweater! It’s a little short in the sleeves and body, but I’m still so damn impressed with myself for actually doing one. I also finished a Christmas present (the striped-looking scarf) with a couple of bonus headbands (the off-white cable thing on needles). I think tried knitting my first ever socks, they were heavier than a normal sock and I made them with leftovers from hats I made, my favorite is the franken-sock in the middle 😀 And to end out the month I knit the Echo Point (Ravelry) shawl as part of a local yarn store knit-a-long, made Tim an un-patterned super thick hat, and cast on the Skylar Shawl Scarf (Ravelry), the blue and gray thing.

I’ve already cast on another hat (Sochead Slouch Hat, Ravelry) and am looking at projects down the road. Who knows what I’ll knit next, but I have a French Market bag that’s been in time out since Thanksgiving, so maybe I’ll pick that up again soon.

What’s Next?
We’re supposed to go on vacation for a week in mid-February and that still seems like it’s going to happen. It’s one of those where I’ll be offline for a week and get to read and knit to my heart’s content. So, fingers crossed it still happens! I’m looking forward to re-reading all of Heartstopper and have quite a few ARCs for February lined up. We’re not sure how much more snow we’ll get, but as I mentioned at the top we had a doozy of a blizzard this past weekend tying the most snowfall in 24 hours and a top 10 blizzard of all time. This is a random pic Tim took when he braved going out during a lull:

That is a car that ignored the parking ban and by the end of the storm, you couldn’t even see the doors or mirrors!
