Book 941: Dylan’s Dilemma (Maine Men #4) – K.C. Wells

Book cover of "Dylan's Dilemma" with Amazon Affiliate linkOn my trek to get to Aaron’s Awakening, I continued to make my way through Wells’ series. I did get sick while visiting Texas so quite a few of these are going to be back posted as I catch up on things. I was a little disappointed in the series with the last installation and all I can say about this one is the same.

For me, the problem with this one and the last one is the character development. There were such strong characters in the first two books who grew and changed within their stories, but in Seb’s Summer and this one the characters were okay, but they just fell flat for me.

There wasn’t enough growth for Dylan or Mark in this story. Mark I felt had a lot more growth in coming out of his porn career and finding a way to make a living and learn about his relationship with Dylan. Dylan could’ve been an even better character with his family and his boss being such dicks. There was one decent scene, but for the most part, I just felt meh.

I think the interactions with the rest of the friend group were great, especially Seb’s over-the-top reactions when everyone realized who Mark was and in general, are always fun. I liked how nonchalant most everyone was about Mark’s career and they just sort of fit in with the group.

The sex scenes were well written and varied with quite a few partners with Mark as he was getting out of the game. The best part of the novel was probably Dylan’s virginal exploration and Mark’s talking him through things and making him ask for what he wanted even if they were a little kinkier than Dylan wanted to ask for because he was embarrassed.

Recommendation: I’ll keep going with the series because I’m excited about Aaron’s Awakening, but if I had read these last two when they were released I probably would’ve abandoned the series. They honestly aren’t bad, they’re just sort of lackluster after the wonderful first two novels in the series.

Opening Line: “Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Closing Line: “Much as he relished the idea of getting Dylan in his sling, the prospect of discussing changes to the house filled him with much stronger emotions. Hope. Gratitude. Love.” (Whited out to avoid spoilers, highlight to read.)
