March Recap 2022

March is gone and April is moving even faster. I’m not sure how it’s already the sixth but here we are. I’m sitting in an airport to fly to Texas for a wedding and just now catching my breath to be able to blog my recap.

March was really jam-packed from my celebrating my getting into the Harvard Graduate School of Education (see fun photo at the end) and a friend’s new job to hiking part of the Blue Hills. I also taught myself how to do color work knitting and we brought back date night. And this doesn’t even start to cover how busy I’ve been at work recently.

Books and Bookish Things
I didn’t read nearly as much as I did in February, but part of that is because I was in a bit of a reading rut. I very much wanted to read Tosi’s Desert Can Save the World, but I just couldn’t get into it so that delayed me a bit, and then just really moving forward with my knitting and being able to spend time outdoors really cut into my reading time.

There were no major duds this month, but I definitely struggled with Remembrance Lost and Tell Me Our Story, they were both by authors I’ve enjoyed in the past but just couldn’t get into this time. I’m pretty much done with Williams’ series, but I’ll give Sunday another chance.

Knitting Nook and Other Stuff
As I said above, I spent most of the month knitting. I finished up a big scarf (the blue and grayish one below) and then I taught myself how to do color work first with two hats (one not pictured because it’s a Christmas present and I STILL haven’t sent it) and the other is my first top-down sweater (the round looking one that also happens to be blue and gray):

I’m even further with the sweater and have actually got to the sleeve separation which was a whole new skill and I can’t wait to see it finished!

We also started “hiking” some of the Blue Hills trails about 20-30 minutes from us and have very much been enjoying them. The longest we’ve done so far was just over 4.5 miles and the hardest was our third one on the first day where I fell twice because it was slippery from a recent storm and we probably should’ve done that one first. It was the steepest and doing it after two other mile-ish long hikes my legs were done halfway up.

We also did a couple of date nights including going to a restaurant at the casino (pass, you can get MUCH better and cheaper Chinese food in China Town) and we went to the rather disappointing Banksy Unauthorized exhibit in Cambridge. There were only a couple of originals and the coolest thing was probably one set of his stencils. It felt like an unnecessary cash grab and I’m really glad I got the tickets at a VERY steep discount.

And last but not least the promised silly photo of my acceptance into HGSE. I applied for a Masters in Education Leadership and somehow got in (even though I work for the Business School, I still had to apply like everyone else). And so, when I sent Tim to a different University to pick up a gift for a friend who started a job and we were going out to celebrate not only did he pick up the gift for our friend, he came back with all of this:

Don’t miss the hat under the hoodie. He basically was like “I wanted to get you the most obnoxious hoodie possible” and that patch/seal in the middle would definitely slow down a bullet it’s fully embroidered and you can knock on it and it’ll make a sound. Obviously, he was really proud and we laughed for quite a while after because he told me he purposefully looked for a hoodie that had the name, the seal and everything.

What’s Next?
It’s going to be another busy month. We’re flying to Texas for a wedding, I’m onboarding a new employee at work, we have an anchor day at work, I’m hoping to finish my sweater and start at least one pair of socks, and, oh yeah, hopefully read a book or two. I’ve already finished two in April mostly because one carried over from March.
