September Recap 2020

Rows of apple trees with a super tall sunflower plant with multiple flowers on itIt’s been a super quiet month on the reading front. The class I’m taking has sucked up most of my reading time and what time I’m not reading I’m spending knitting.

It feels like ages ago that we were in New Hampshire for a week, but it was only a month ago as this posts but yeah 2020 is still flying. Other signs fall arrives: work is picking up, we went apple picking and leaf peeping, and all the knitting 😀 We’re heading out to western Massachusetts for the long weekend and that’ll be nice.

Books and Bookish Things
My reading seriously fell off from the coronavirus high of 20+ a month. I just haven’t been feeling it lately and I’d rather make something or play cards than sit and read quietly. I’m sure it’ll pick back up once class is over and I’m reading fewer articles, but until then who knows?

I read two books this month. The first was a disappointing end to the trilogy and the second was a better than expected galley. Not sure I’ll follow the series that galley starts, but I didn’t mind her writing.

  1. Full Domain (Nice Guys #3) – Kindle Alexander
  2. Feinted Love (Crimes of the Heart #1) – Elle Keaton*

I picked up a few books this month including two galleys (*) which adds to the pile of galleys I’m going to work through for the end of the year.

  • Burn Zone (Hotshots #1) – Annabeth Albert
  • Feinted Love (Crimes of the Heart #1) – Elle Keaton
  • Can’t Even – Anne Helen Petersen

On social media I stumbled across this fascinating book find:

Other Things/Knitting Nook
Really this section should be called knitting nook right now 😀 I’ve pumped out quite a few knitting projects (including two long overdue 2019 Christmas presents) and I plan to keep moving forward full steam ahead!

I’m also teaching myself continental knitting in hopes of alleviating some of the pressure on my wrist as I knit (and the added benefit of speeding up). It’s frustrating as hell, but it’ll be worth it when it finishes clicking. In other yarn related observations, I loved this mural that I thought was actual yarn:

What’s Next?
In addition to the dozens of articles and three books I’m reading for class, I made it about 75% of the way through Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram. It’s taken most of September, not because it’s bad—I’m thoroughly enjoying it—but, because I’m not reading it very often. It’s been on my list since Sarah Reads Too Much was on an award panel and mentioned it and someone (maybe Sarah) read the sequel (Darius the Great Deserves Better) which I’m excited to read eventually even though I haven’t finished this one yet!

  1. Geoff, your knitting looks fabulous and I love the little personalised tags you put on them! 😍 Sadly my reading also really dropped off last month, as I found myself too tired after work. So I hope we’re both able to get our reading mojo back soon and good luck with your class. 🙂

    1. Thanks! They were a last minute idea and I really like them 🙂 Fingers crossed on the reading for both of us, but I am honestly enjoying reading books I would blaze through rather slowly for a change.

  2. It’s that time of year to be thinking about cozy sewing projects. Love the artwork on that museum in Calais–I’ve never been but may need to add it to my list the next time I’m in that part of France.
