Bringing the Bob’s Burgers comic adaptation to a close with issues 13-16, Bob’s Burgers: Char-broiled was kind of disappointing. I think there were other continuations through the free comic book day issues, but this was the last trade paperback anthology.
There are only four stories in this one: Tina’s Erotic Friend Fiction Presents: Enter the Tina; Louise’s Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities Presents: Giant Chinchilla Girl; Gene’s Rhymey Rhymes That Could One Day Be Songs Presents: A Musical Gene in King Arthur’s Court; and a Little Shop of Horror’s compilation from all three.
I’m not sure if it was the fact I didn’t get the first or fourth cultural references, like I get them but haven’t seen the source material so it was kind of meh. That being said, even the two that weren’t source based (as far as I could tell) or that I had an idea of what they were going for were meh as well.
I did really like the Linda paper doll cut out, but still find it odd that they pulled the Bob and Linda specific pieces after the first two anthologies. They may as well have called this Bob’s Burgers: Kids Adventures. Sure Bob, Linda and various other adults make appearances, but really it’s just about the kids.
Recommendation: This one was a meh for me. It’s not as good as the others, but if you wan’t to finish off all of them read it. If you don’t really care go grab one of the middle three instead (Well Done, Medium Rare, or Pan Fried).
