Book 874: Elliot, Song of the Soulmate (Love, Austen #5) – Anyta Sunday

Book cover of "Elliot, Song of the Soulmate" with Amazon Affiliate linkOMG ya’ll, Anyta Sunday is going to finish her Love, Austen series!!! Can you tell I’m still bitter about the Austen Project? I mean who does four books and then just STOPS!?! Like WT-actual-F!? When this  review opportunity came in, it was an automatic yes.* I just had to wait for them to get me the actual ARC so I could start it and boy was I impatient!

I didn’t realize it at the time, but we actually met both characters in this novel in the last book, Finley Embraces Heart and Home, at their end of term/secondary school party. I may (or may not) have squealed a little when I connected those dots this book.

Book 867: Finley Embraces Heart and Home (Love, Austen #4) – Anyta Sunday

Book cover of "Finley Embraces Heart and Home" with Amazon Affiliate linkThis book felt different from the other three books in Anyta Sunday’s Love, Austen series. I was always going to read it and said yes as soon as the review opportunity came in, but it just felt different.*

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I think it has to do with the fact that we spend so much more time with Finley and Ethan growing up than we spent with anyone else in the series. All the other books (Emerett Has Never Been in Love, Cameron Wants to Be a Hero, and Bennet, Pride before the Fall) were your more typical whirlwind type romances: sparks fly, a couple of weeks or months past, boom happily ever after.

Book 857: Playing Offside (Sporting Secrets #1) – Jax Calder

Book cover of "Playing Offside" with Amazon Affiliate linkI know nothing about rugby other than the fact they wear super short shorts 😀 Apparently, that was enough for me to say yes when this book appeared in my inbox from Gay Romance Reviews* (I mean, let’s be honest, are any of us really surprised by this? I do love a good MM Sports Romance, regardless of the sport).

Playing Offside is the story of Aiden, top of his game  and heading toward the end of his career who is THE starter to beat for the New Zealand National Rugby Team, and Tyler, the young phenom that has everyone talking and will challenge Aiden for the same spot on the starting lineup. (There was another way they referred to it but hell if I can remember it—something about starting 5? I feel like there are more players on the field per team, but who knows).

Book 828: Bennet, Pride Before the Fall (Love, Austen #3) – Anyta Sunday

Book cover of "Bennet, Pride before the Fall" with Amazon Affiliate linkOf course, the second I received the email for this one from Gay Romance Reviews I filled out the form for a review copy 😀 No questions asked. And this was on top of already having some hesitations with Darcy being the dad of Henry from the Northanger Abbey retelling Cameron Wants to be a Hero.

As the Love, Austen series moves along I feel like Sunday is getting further and further away from the source material. This is not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to an Austen retelling, but I’ve definitely noted people being less enthusiastic in their reviews.

Book 813: Cameron Wants to be a Hero (Love, Austen #2) – Anyta Sunday

Book cover of "Cameron Wants to Be a Hero" with Amazon Affiliate linkI was always going to read these. From the second I found out about them from Gay Romance Reviews or when I randomly stumbled across them at some future date.*  With a description like, “It’s Northanger Abbey, complete with a neo-gothic mansion and charming misunderstandings. But contemporary. And gay.”, hell yes I was going to read them.

Both this and Emerett Has Never Been in Love, were adorable retellings of Austen’s works. I’m a little concerned Sunday will abandon the project before she gets to Mansfield Park (even though I SWEAR we met the characters) or Persuasion, like it seems most do (stupid Marvel and Austen Project).
