May Recap 2021

Another whirlwind month in what seems to be the waning stages of the pandemic (I’m still not convinced).

After the last-minute trip home for my grandfather’s services, I immediately turned around and got on a plane again to go see Tim’s family in Las Vegas. For the most part the flights felt safe and the hotels/casinos kept people distanced, but it was weird being there as things started to open up! Like the table dividers came down our last day and I was like whoa-whoa-whoa, let’s not go crazy!

Book 755: Eat A Peach – David Chang w/ Gabe Ulla

Book cover of "Eat A Peach" with Amazon Affiliate linkI enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would when I requested it.*

I mean I knew I would enjoy it, because Chang’s philosophy on food (accessibility, universality) are things I identified with as we made our way through Ugly Delicious a while ago. I mean him summing up the book (to me at least) and his philosophy with this sold it to me:

Deliciousness is a meme. Its appeal is universal, and it will spread without consideration of borders or prejudice. (Chapter 20)

Book 749: Feinted Love (Crimes of the Heart #1) – Elle Keaton

Book cover of "Feinted Love" with amazon affiliate linkI’ve been incredibly hesitant to accept another galley from Gay Romance Reviews after reading It’s A Steal and being appalled at the editing and the numerous 4-5 star reviews on Goodreads.* I’m glad to say this one was definitely a lot better than that one, so at least I wasn’t burned twice, right?

But what can I say (mostly because I’ve said it before), I’m a sucker for a cover model in glasses . . . swoon. I’m not sure I’d peg this cover model as Arnie, this guy just looks too smooth.

Book 730: Conventionally Yours (True Colors #1) – Annabeth Albert

Book cover of "Conventionally Yours" with Amazon Affiliate linkI’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing I let so much time pass between finishing this and writing this review. If I would’ve written this right after I finished it would’ve been effusive and glowing, but about a week later it’s much more measured (I think).

It’s no secret that I adore Albert’s books—seriously, I created a tag so it’s even easier for you to find them and I’m slowly working my way through her entire back list, but this one hasn’t stayed with me like some of her other series. Don’t be mistaken, I thoroughly enjoyed it and my adoration of Albert has not lessened, I think maybe it’s just matured.

Book 697: Under the Covers – K.C. Wells

Book cover for "Under the Covers" and Amazon Affiliate linkI’m not sure how I haven’t gotten tired of these yet—I usually have by the third or fourth book—whatever it is I’m blaming coronavirus and the brain stupor. (I mean I’m not complaining I’m loving these, this is just an observation.)

After finishing a review copy I’d held on for longer than I should, I grabbed a few more of these from my local library (thanks Hoopla). I stuck with books by K.C. Wells because I enjoyed the others I read by her (My Fair Brady and The Senator’s Secret) and then grabbed a couple toward the top of the list when I sorted by “most popular.”
