Book 947: Hot Pursuit (The Hot Cannolis #3) – Eli Easton

Book cover of "Hot Pursuit" with Amazon Affiliate linkIt was a little surprising to see that this one was only written by Eli Easton but I found out that what I  believe will be the final book in the series, Hot Lips, will be authored by Tara Lain. That being said, it didn’t stop me from requesting this one when it landed in my inbox!* I knew Rick’s story would be good and it was definitely good.

Hot Pursuit is the story of Rick and John. Rick is Mike (from Hot Seat) and Donny’s (from Hot Wings) uncle and is a homicide detective and recently came out to some of his family in support of Donny. He’s assigned a new partner, John, who has a chip on his shoulder for some reason and caught Rick’s attention even before he was assigned as his partner.

Book 945: Rediscovered (Do-Over #2) – E.M. Denning

Book cover of "Rediscovered" with Amazon Affiliate linkWhen this landed in my inbox, it was a case do I really want to continue the series, is it really going to be the end of the world if I just let it go?* I didn’t feel super strong in either direction after reading Rearranged.

I sort of wanted more information about what went down between Rowan, the first book’s protagonist, and Harrison, this book’s, parents because it wasn’t given due justice in the first book and it received even less play in this one unless you count Harrison being fired and Rowan quitting after the main drama of this book.

Book 943: Aaron’s Awakening (Maine Men #6) – K.C. Wells

Book cover of "Aaron's Awakening" with Amazon Affiliate linkWhen this ARC landed in my inbox I recognized the series and the author, but if I’m 100% honest about why I decided to read this, it’s that gorgeous colorwork sweater Aaron is wearing on the cover.* Priorities right? I just finished knitting my first colorwork sweater and am in the process of workout the design of another from a TV show so obviously, it was already in mind!

I’m glad I decided to jump back into the series. I remember enjoying Finn’s Fantasy when I read it but hadn’t kept up with the series so of course had to rush through and read books 2-5 to catch up on the friend group! And the overall thought on this book is: I’m not sure how Wells is going to close out the series (aside from who she’s closing it out with), but after these last two she’s got her work cut out for her to make it even better!

Book 941: Dylan’s Dilemma (Maine Men #4) – K.C. Wells

Book cover of "Dylan's Dilemma" with Amazon Affiliate linkOn my trek to get to Aaron’s Awakening, I continued to make my way through Wells’ series. I did get sick while visiting Texas so quite a few of these are going to be back posted as I catch up on things. I was a little disappointed in the series with the last installation and all I can say about this one is the same.

For me, the problem with this one and the last one is the character development. There were such strong characters in the first two books who grew and changed within their stories, but in Seb’s Summer and this one the characters were okay, but they just fell flat for me.

Book 940: Seb’s Summer (Maine Men #3) – K.C. Wells

Book cover of "Seb's Summer" with Amazon Affiliate linkAs I continue blazing through Wells’ Maine Men series to get ready for Aaron’s Awakening, book six, I’m not really hoping this isn’t a downturn in the series. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad book, it just wasn’t as good as Finn’s Fantasy or Ben’s Boss.

In this book, we have Seb from the core friend group who has had to leave Ogunquit to head further north to Cape Porpoise to help out his injured uncle on his lobster boat. While there he runs into Marcus, an older (mid-30s) copywriter who fled his demons in NYC and is seeking refuge in his family’s vacation house.
