Book 767: Tic-Tac-Mistletoe (Hartbridge Christmas #1) – N.R. Walker

Book cover of "Tic-Tac-Mistletoe" with Amazon Affiliate linkFor the 8th book of 12 Books of MM Christmas Romance 2020 we have N.R. Walker’s Tic-Tac-Mistletoe.

First, I have to admit that it took me way too long to realize the tic-tac-toe still worked with the damn Mistletoe, like mentally it was there, but I didn’t really make the connection until I was typing out one of the quotes and was like OMG I GET IT. So yeah these might be rotting my brain.

Book 755: Eat A Peach – David Chang w/ Gabe Ulla

Book cover of "Eat A Peach" with Amazon Affiliate linkI enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would when I requested it.*

I mean I knew I would enjoy it, because Chang’s philosophy on food (accessibility, universality) are things I identified with as we made our way through Ugly Delicious a while ago. I mean him summing up the book (to me at least) and his philosophy with this sold it to me:

Deliciousness is a meme. Its appeal is universal, and it will spread without consideration of borders or prejudice. (Chapter 20)

Book 706: Throwing Hearts – N.R. Walker

Book cover of "Throwing Hearts" with Amazon Affiliate linkI might be nearing the end of this MM romance craze. I have a few more in the backlog, but in general I’m thinking my brain might need something a bit meatier. (I don’t know if that pun is intended or not because there has been plenty of meat in these books. [eyebrows eyebrows])

I’m not sure if this is a result of Walker’s writing style, there’s a maturity missing that is refreshing in the right moment, but also a little frustrating in most other moments, or if it’s reading so many back-to-back. I’m up to 23 this year (not counting hete-romance or graphic novels) and the bulk of those have been in the last 6-10 weeks.

Book 705: The Weight of It All – N.R.Walker

Book Cover of "The Weight of It All" with Amazon Affiliate linkFor our anniversary Tim got me a new Kindle Oasis (so freakin’ fancy) and a Kindle Unlimited membership. I’d avoided the unlimited membership because of the rumors that it’s flooded with self-published works and knock off copies of popular works, but I am definitely going to take advantage of it and see if I can find out if it’s worth the rather steep price when I can get 95% of what I want from my local library.

My first stop, was of course MM romances because why not? I liked the premise of this one, a larger guy dumped because he gained weight and become complacent in his relationship slowly finding himself and falling for his hell-a hot trainer who has his own backstory. What I didn’t realize was that I had previously read a book by N.R. Walker, Upside Down, that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Book 658: The Children of Harvey Milk – Andrew Reynolds

Cover art of "The Children of Harvey Milk"I’m not sure how I stumbled across this one, but when I did back in May I requested a copy from the publisher and they kindly obliged.* I was interested because of the subject matter, but also because Reynolds is based at UNC Chapel Hill (my undergrad) and his name rang a bell because he’d chaired the Sexuality Studies program there at some point in the recent past. And then with my master’s degree focusing on the Civil Partnership Act (2014) in the UK, of course I was going to want to read this book and see what he had to say.
