Craft Corner January 2023

2022 Best 9 Grid from @losing.my.knit instagram page.Welcome to the newest addition to my blog, Craft Corner. I’ve occasionally included callout sections in my monthly blog recaps about the knitting I work on during that month and occasionally talk about future patterns.

With the 2023 year change and future changes to the book portion of this blog, I thought I’d spend a bit more time on these recaps and talk a bit more about where a large portion of my time is spent outside of work, school and reading. The photo to the right is my Insta Top 9 and it’s basically me being a goofball and working on designs by Rastus Hsu and Maxim Cyr (who you’ll see more from below).

Before I get to my Make 9 (the 9 projects I’m most looking forward to this year) I wanted to throw in some of the completed projects I recently photographed for Ravelry:

Starting with the Sweater (I think it’s set to autoplay so you may have to go back) the patterns are also in order from oldest finished to most recent:

I loved making each of these, but particularly the Chevronopolis (teal and gray shawl) as it was a test knit. I applied to test knit and was like I’ll never be chosen and then I was and was like oh shit now I have to knit something pretty quick. I do wish I would’ve gone up one more on the needle size, The Hide & Peak sweater was my first top-down sweater and I very much enjoyed it and will make more of sweaters in the future. I would modify the neck so it wasn’t so wide maybe with folded collar and I’ll work on my colorwork tension – you can see a lot of puckering but not bad for my first sweater. AND Max reshared my Insta story of the sweater and shawl and I was like WHOA. I will definitely make the hats again as you can see below, so quick and easy and I love the marled effect(taking two different strands of yarn and knitting as one), and will probably make another Paris Toujours as it was quick and easy but looks complicated.

What’s Next?
Now, on to what I’m hoping to make this year. My Make 9! The list below is in order from top left to bottom right in the photo just below that.

  1. Flea Sweater | Loppisgneser by Pickles Design
  2. Marled Rib Hat by Hannah Maier for KnitPicks
  3. Trinigan by Andrea Mowry
  4. Kinship Shawl by Olga Buraya-Kefelian & Stephen West
  5. Arrowverse Cowl by Rastus Hsu
  6. Incognito Shawl by Mrs. Moon
  7. So Basic Sweater by Maxim Cyr
  8. Antler Toque by Tin Can Knits
  9. Heartstopper Sweater using the Iggy Peck by Tanis Lavallee for stitch counts/jumping off. I drafted the rest of the pattern myself.

2023 Make 9 @losing.my.knit Instagram gridI’m roughly halfway through the Flea Sweater for Tim and you can see photos on my Insta: @losing.my.knit. I’ll make another Marled Rib Hat or two, probably with leftovers from the first two, but maybe with some of my variegated hand dyes that would really pop with a solid color.

I’m most excited about the Trinigan (top left), the Arrowverse (middle), and my Heartstopper Sweater (bottom right). I have yarn for the third and am pretty confident in the colorwork I’ve mapped out and the pattern I’ve found for stitch count. I need to commit. For the Trinigan I’ve got gift cards I’m going to use and am thinking of two different blue fades instead of the blue/orange she went with. And the Arrowverse I’ve got some yarn I’ve had since the early pandemic that I was always going to knit myself one, but just haven’t gotten around to it.
