Similar to the last two (Bob’s Burgers Vol. 1 and Medium Rare), we get to spend more time with the Belcher children off-screen.
We’ve got more musicals from Gene, Erotic Friend Fiction from Tina, and mayhem and mystery from Louise. I really appreciated that with this collection we got a couple of longer stories and a continuation from the previous collection. The authors were always great at pulling in various details from the show and making these comics feel like they’re part of the show.
This time the story that took the cake was the Louise and Tina crossover based on the X-Files. It starts out as a Louise story and then all of a sudden we find out it’s Tina’s Erotic Friend Fiction and Gene and Louise are reading it over her shoulder. It was perfect. And not far behind it was the other Louise conspiracy theory story line which focuses in on why there are so many differently named pest extermination companies!
I’m disappointed in the lack of Linda/Bob stories. The TV episodes do a good job of balancing the kids and the parents with a few overlapping episodes here and there, but the comics just gloss over Bob and Linda. they appear as minor characters in most of the stories, but they’re just sort of there.
Recommendation: They’re still evolving and I’m enjoying them. Gene’s fell off in this batch, but Tina’s and Louise’s held their own. I’ll read the remaining issues in the next few months when I need some filler for the blog 🙂
