I grabbed this from my local library before going on vacation because lately, I’ve been reading a lot of chapter-based manga works on WebComics. I wasn’t sure my internet would be good enough to read those so wanted a quick read between other books!
What I hadn’t planned on was for it to align so closely to the previous book, Art Therapy, featuring a character with a disability and I also didn’t plan on half reading a book further in this series (Limit Vol. 2) and having NO clue what was going on because the titles for this series just aren’t that great.
Overall, the story was a bit messy for me, and there appeared to be some jumps in times or conversations that I just couldn’t quite track so I felt lost quite a few times throughout the relatively short work. I’m also not 100% sure about the English translation as that could’ve contributed to some of my confusion.
Taichi really reminded me of Aoki from My Love Mix-Up!, in their over-the-top wearing their emotions on their sleeves. I’m not sure if this is a trope or not, but I definitely got similar vibes. Kohei, who has been partially deaf since childhood was pretty stoic and stand-offish mostly to protect himself from making mistakes or offending people.
The BL aspect of the story is incredibly slow, but it does make an appearance toward the end. And the afterward by the artist is hilarious calling this out because she forgot that it was for a BL magazine so had to add some back in.
Recommendation: While this is no Go for it, Nakamura! or My Love Mix-Up!, it was a quick and fun read. There were some quality issues in the translation and I think the story could’ve been a bit tighter, but this was a great super quick read. I’ll probably read the second in the series and then decide if I’ll read the 4-6 as they seemed a bit disjointed to having accidentally started with what I believe is #3.
