April Recap 2021

Photo of an airplane wing from inside the plane with Atlantic ocean and Boston Harbor Islands in the distanceJust when you think the months can’t get any longer they do, and you’re left with WT actual F. I’m currently on my third flight in three days—I’m just exhausted—and of the three this was the only one actually planned.

My grandfather passed away suddenly last weekend and that required a very quick (less than 36 hours) trip back to NC for the services and to see family. It was stressful and I’m exhausted, but I’m glad I was able to get down see everyone and be there for the service and then get back up again in time to make this flight to go see Tim’s family out west.

The good part is that by time this posts I’ll hopefully be relaxing by a pool, hanging out with Tim’s family, or sitting at a blackjack table in Vegas 😀

Books and Bookish Things
I didn’t read as much as I hoped I would this month, but I did knock another book off my TBR pile (Sixpence House – hard pass don’t bother), I read a blogosphere darling (The Prophets – beautifully written and incredibly moving), a couple of romance novels, and a fun debut about bees and learning to move past/live with grief and sorrow (The Music of Bees). We took a weekend trip to Maine in mid-April, and it snowed, so of course I sat in the hot tub and read a book while it was snowing, who wouldn’t!?

  1. Sixpence House – Paul Collins
  2. Finn’s Fantasy (Maine Men #1) – K.C. Wells*
  3. The Prophets – Robert Jones, Jr.
  4. The Music of Bees – Eileen Garvin*
  5. Stupid Love (Five Foxes #1) – S.J. Carter*
  6. Galaxies and Oceans – N.R. Walker

Not only did I read three ARCs this month, but I also went a little overboard requesting/accepting them. Thankfully, their publication dates are a bit more spread out than usual so that’s a bonus, plus I already read two 😀

The good part with all the travel, planned and unexpected, I’ve had time to log completely out of work and get some blogging and reading done which has been nice. My original plan was to bring along the crochet scarf I’ve been working on (see end of post), but I decided reading was more what I wanted to do 😀

What’s Next?
Well I’m hoping to relax before our end of year push comes in June at work. Things are already picking up again and I know my reading time will be limited. Thankfully, class is slowly wrapping up with only 2-3 more weeks left and then I’ll have a break until my final class for the certificate in the fall (still no clue what I’m taking). Shockingly, however I have my next few books planned out due to ARCs and wanting to knock another book off my TBR list. So, the next few books after this include Mrs. Dalloway (TBR) followed by Yes, Daddy by Jonathan Parks-Ramage, The Step Back by J.T. Bushnell, and Cameron Wants to be a Hero by Anyta Sunday, all three of which are ARCs I’ve accepted over the past two months.

And here is the promised scarf shot. This is what it will look similar to when it’s done (Instagram), but mine won’t be quite as wide. But honestly, it’s going to make a great gift, and I’m super excited about the fringe!

  1. My condolences to you and your family on the loss of your grandfather ❤ I really hope you are enjoying some well needed time to relax and read around the pool! 🙂

    1. Thanks – I’m glad I was able to get down there for the service. And the pool time was much needed relaxation, but now I think I need a vacation from all the family time to get more rest!
