August, September and October Recap 2018

I’ve put off posting this since August 1. I actually had a draft scheduled for September 3, and again for both October 1 and November 2. And yet here we are almost two full weeks into November and It’s just now being posted.

When I started this post the first line was: Good Bye Summer/not really damn weather. Now it’s more like holy hell the cold has arrived (not really, but it was below freezing the morning I wrote this). I’m going to keep it pretty simple so I can just get this thing posted. I do have the last two books queued up but am spreading them out over the next two weeks so I at least get a post a week.

Books and Bookish Things
I haven’t read a lot since September. It’s been a long and rough couple of months, I might write more about it later, but for now I’m leaving it at that. I enjoyed finishing off my Harry Potter re-read back in August. I was less-than-impressed with the Shakespeare LGBT fan-fiction. I’m obsessed with Adams’ The Tip of the Iceberg and Boy Erased was heartbreaking. We took a long weekend in Maine in early October and I didn’t read, but it was the perfect place to read and I cannot wait to go back!

  1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter #4) – J.K. Rowling
  2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter #5) – J.K. Rowling
  3. Romeo for Real (Romeo & Julian #1) – Markus Harwood-Jones
  4. Just Julian (Romeo & Julian #2) – Markus Harwood-Jones
  5. The Tip of the Iceberg – Mark Adams
  6. The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories – Susanna Clarke
  7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter #6) – J.K. Rowling
  8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7) – J.K. Rowling
  9. Boy Erased – Gerrard Conley

I stumbled across these three things on social media and loved each one so you should also check them out!

Jane Austen is the pinnacle to which all other authors aspire. ✨ 👤 Joanne Kathleen Rowling, (born July 31, 1965, Yate, near Bristol, England), British author, creator of the popular and critically acclaimed Harry Potter series, about a young sorcerer in training. 🏆Costa Book Award (1999) ✨ 👤Jane Austen, (born December 16, 1775, Steventon, Hampshire, England—died July 18, 1817, Winchester, Hampshire), English writer who first gave the novel its distinctly modern character through her treatment of ordinary people in everyday life. She published four novels during her lifetime: Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1815). In these and in Persuasion and Northanger Abbey (published together posthumously, 1817), she vividly depicted English middle-class life during the early 19th century. Her novels defined the era’s novel of manners, but they also became timeless classics that remained critical and popular successes two centuries after her death. ✨ #janeausten #jkrowling #harrypotter #joannekathleenrowling #novelist #worldenglishliterature #englishliterature #literature #author #writer #series #readers #quotes

What we did in August, September, October and Early November
Part of the reason I haven’t been reading as much is because I picked up knitting needles again for the first time in a long time and I’ve done quite a few projects and learned quite a bit more through trial and error:

The teal is an extra long scarf for me, the white was a sampler where I was learning how to knit herringbone and star stitch (flat knot in the UK), the one with the five needles is where I learned how to knit in the round and made a very odd-looking hat, the gray is a scarf for a family member’s Christmas present, and the blue/white bulky one is Tim’s blanket for Christmas.

We also just did a lot in general from travelling around New England and visiting NC, to going to a concert, seeing a show having family visit and doing a crazy Halloween at work.

If you hover over the photos you should get a very brief description of what they are. If I try to write about them all this will never get posted.

What’s Next?
I’m really hoping to get some reading done again. I’m part of the way into Crazy Rich Asians. I loved the film and can’t wait to actually get into the book, I just need a couple of hours without distractions. I have an unplanned week off the first week of December, which I’m really hoping will let me catch up on books, but who knows? With two knitting projects going and a third on the way, I may have over committed!

  1. Beautiful colours at the lakeside. Your kitting is seriously impressive. I can do thit basics but wouldn’t tackle any patterns as complex as your herringbone sampler. By the way there is a much easier way to knit in the round – you use a circular needle

  2. OK…much relieved. Not sure why, but the preview of this post, as it appeared in email, had a wring of….all done blogging, see ya. Glad I was mistaken. (cuz we’ve both known bloggers to do that…and they’ve every right, but it still makes me sad.)
