30 x 30: #7 – Spend a day at the beach

IMG_0958Yesterday, as part of my random three-day stay-cation I drove down to Cape Cod to spend the day at the beach. For those of you keeping track, that’s 8 of 30. I know a few friends have plans for the fourth to go, but I wanted a day by myself and to get out of Boston if only for a few hours. I couldn’t have asked for a better day!

Growing up roughly two hours inland in North Carolina we went to the beach EVERY summer growing up. Whether it was a day trip like I did yesterday or a week-long house rental with all my aunts and uncles, we went. I even worked at a summer camp on a very large saltwater pond in Rhode Island. Basically, I’m just trying to say I really like the beach. It’s been years since I last went to the beach just to go to the beach.

IMG_0960After about two hours (traffic was horrid into and out of Boston) I got to the beach and it was pretty quiet I found a spot away from all the families and just far enough down that I couldn’t see the parking lot. The waves and the slight noise of the families were my soundtrack as I read and tanned for the better part of three hours an watched boats go by or come to shore to rescue maidens.

No lie, guy in a boat came to shore get the woman who was waiting for him and they sailed off into the water. It made me simultaneously jealous and reminiscent of Camp Fuller in Rhode Island, a sailing camp. Either way it was an excellent few hours on the beach and away from the city even if the drive back took forever to once I hit Boston.

IMG_0962To end the day before I headed back to Boston, I went to get ice cream. My friend Caitrin who loaned me her beach chair for the day told me about a place that I cannot remember the name of that her roommate from the town said to try. I got a delicious coffee kahlua chocolate ice cream and only paid $4-ish for two scoops about the size of my head! After I ate that I headed home so I could try to beat traffic and go to dinner.

I did, unfortunately, get burned 🙁 I knew it was going to happen and I was super adamant about putting on sunscreen, but oh well. I guess I’ll up the factor and increase the times I reapply (it was 35 and every 45). Even with the slight tingling burn it was worth the day and I can’t WAIT to go again over the summer.

    1. I wish I would’ve taken something might and fluffy. I finished most of The Rise of Endymion on the beach. So I enjoyed it but it could’ve been a fun RomCom book!
