October 2013 Recap

What a month. Not only was I sick for a portion of it, but I ran phonathon at work, I travelled back to NC for my 10-year high school reunion, and have set up everything for a HUGE event on November 6th.

While all of this was going on the Boston Book Festival made its annual appearance in Copley Square. To be honest, I was so busy and so sick that I just couldn’t get excited about the Festival this year. Add in that there were no authors or panels that I HAD to see, so after coaxing myself down to the area I did a quick walk around and then abandoned it and went and had coffee with a friend I hadn’t seen for a while. I did however, get a discount on an AWESOME new t-shirt from Litographs. I wanted B&W but they sent a dark green, but that’s okay.

As you can see it is Wuthering Heights. I’m not sure how much of the text is on there, but there is quiet a bit on there. If you don’t know about my love for Wuthering Heights, you should check out the two awesome versions I’ve found over the past few years that I’ve got and have now started keeping an eye out for here and here.

On the reading front, I had a very slow month. I read four books, three of which were library books and one which qualified for multiple challenges.

Recent Acquisitions
Two months in a row without purchasing a book. I’m SHOCKED! I didn’t even get any galleys this month. I got three books from the library which I’m glad I did, but hey I’m still impressed this is two months without paying for a book!

Challenge Progress
This month I read one challenge book, No Name, which qualified for two of my yearly challenges AND the Classics Club. I will get around to reading Wuthering Heights this month, I mean how can I not do it with that awesome t-shirt!?

  • Mount TBR Reading Challenge
    • Monthly Progress: 1 book
    • Overall Progress – 11/12 (92%) + 13 not listed
  • Back to the Classics Challenge
    • Monthly Progress: 0 books
    • Overall Progress – 9/11 (82%)
  • Tea and Books Reading Challenge
    • Monthly Progress: 1 book
    • Overall Progress – 3/4 (75%) + 3 not listed (Les Misérables is so long it counts for two books!)
  • The Classics Club
    • Monthly Progress: 1 book
    • Overall Progress – 28/100 (28%)

What’s Next?
I’ll be ready to just sleep and get back into the gym and to pretend to have a normal life again, but I have to make it through Wednesday November 6th when our biggest event is finished! I’m just so tired and need to get back into a routine.

I do plan on going right into the last library book I checked out last month, All My Friends are Super Heroes by Andrew Kaufman which I’m super excited about. It’s just a great premise, and if you’ve read for a long time you’ll remember my love of odd superhero novels like Hero by Perry Moore.

  1. Well done for not buying any books for the last two months. I am on a book ban but it doesn’t seem to be stopping me from accepting review copies and downloading kindle freebies! Happy reading in November 🙂

    1. Thanks! I’m still shocked. I did end up getting three galleys at the beginning of this month and library books are my best friends at the moment.

  2. two months and no books. That’s great! Sorry to hear you were sick–that’s never fun. Well it was when I was a kid and stayed home from school, but now, it’s not fun. The best when I got chicken pox for the second time–yep, second. Both cases were really, really, really mild, but I was still contagious so I had to stay home, but didn’t really itch or feel ill. It was awesome!

  3. I love the t-shirt, but wished I could say I liked Wuthering Heights more. Maybe you’ll have a better time reading it than I did…I sure hope so 🙂 Hope November is going well for you so far and that you are feeling better!

      1. Hahaha I guess so. It’s one of those books I wished I liked but really didn’t. Granted, I haven’t read it for several years and maybe should give it a go again someday.
