Book 946: Just by Looking at Him – Ryan O’Connell

Book cover of "Just by Looking at Him" with Amazon Affiliate linkIf I’m 100% honest I first was drawn to this book because of the cover art, a cropped version of Henry Scott Tuke’s The Critics (Wikiart). Tuke does water like no one else and they pumped up the blues and greens on the cover.

Then when you add the title of the painting to what the main character does for a living: mind blown. So THEN I realized this was the same Ryan O’Connell who created, wrote, and starred in Special on Netflix, and of course, I requested a copy.*

Book 887: If This Gets Out – Sophie Gonzales & Cale Dietrich

Book cover of "If This Gets Out" with Amazon Affiliate linkMy little closeted teenage heart would’ve died to read something like this in the late-90s/early-00s. So, when I saw it on NetGalley I requested it IMMEDIATELY, the publisher approved, and I have been sitting on it for months.*

I know I’ve said it before and I’ll keep on saying it—I am SO jealous of all the teens today getting to see themselves in books like this. I mean hell I enjoy them and I am WELL outside the target demographic for these.

Book 851: One to Watch – Kate Stayman-London

Book cover of "One to Watch" with Amazon Affiliate linkBlazed through this wonderful debut novel after stumbling across it on a list of great beach reads. It took quite a while to get it from the library, but it was 100% worth the wait. I can easily see this being turned into a film or made-for-TV-movie, but it’s better than some of the young adult gay one’s I’ve read recently.

Bea is a plus sized fashion blogger who writes a scathing take down of a reality TV show that’s suspiciously similar to The Bachelor, and the next thing she knows she’s been convinced to be the next Main Squeeze on the show and of course chaos, hilarity, and romance ensues.

Book 843: The Midnight Library – Matt Haig

Book cover of "The Midnight Library" with Amazon Affiliate linkClearly, I grabbed this one for the title and the fact that it seems everyone is reading it. Seriously, I saw at least three or four copies while on vacation and it’s been popping up sporadically on book blogs since its initial release last year.

I didn’t really have an idea of what it was about so was a little taken aback by the opening line but then was totally on-board when I re-read the back blurb. In essence the book follows Nora as she tries to find the life she wants to live by visiting all her potential selves after attempting suicide.

Book 820: Treble Maker (Perfect Harmony #1) – Annabeth Albert

Book cover of "Treble Maker" with Amazon Affiliate linkI grabbed this one when Albert shared an ominous “these might be leaving Kindle Unlimited soon” on her Facebook. This was one of the few series of hers I haven’t read yet (and honestly had been avoiding for some unknown reason). I also grabbed it because we randomly re-watched Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 recently.

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe this was her first published series. You can tell she’s definitely grown a lot as an author since it was published. Her writing has matured and her stories and characters are so much richer and more believable.
