Book 748: Full Domain (Nice Guys #3) – Kindle Alexander

Book cover of "Full Domain" with amazon affiliate linkThis series could’ve stopped with the last book—it wasn’t bad, just underwhelming.

This picks up immediately after Full Disclosure and jumps right back into the story focusing on Kreed Sinacola (Mitch Knox partner from the second book) and Aaron Stuart (Mitch’s gaming friend). Aaron’s been called in to help with the case that started in Double Full and was “solved” in Full Disclosure, but he poked holes in the tidy package that wrapped up the case. So, it’s a problem he created for himself.

Book 743: Double Full (Nice Guys #1) – Kindle Alexander

Book cover of "Double Full" with Amazon Affiliate linkAfter slamming It’s A Steal and discovering the few people who weighed in similarly I noticed this title on one of their Goodreads profiles and thought why not since I have the Kindle Unlimited membership for the year. And for once, Goodreads came through!

I was a bit put off at the beginning because it starts a bit more like L.A. Witt’s works and Damon Suede’s works in that they go right in and they go hard. Yes, I’m talking about sex. This one starts off with a hot and heavy sex scene where Colton, quarter back, NFL prospect, and All-American Boy, is buried balls deep in Jace, four year out and proud cheerleader, in a college locker room after having just come onto him. Thankfully, it cools down for a bit but I was definitely worried it was going to be constant hot and heavy.

Book 653: Off the Grid – Robert McCaw

"Off the Grid" book coverI requested a copy of this from the publicist, when they reached out to me about my next read, Mike Papantonio’s Law and Addiction.* Unfortunately, I probably should’ve just stuck with the latter. This book has a lot going for it, the protagonist sounds interesting (a veteran, a cop, a dark secret), the location is exotic (Hawaii), and international intrigue, but nope nothing pays out.

I’m honestly not sure whether I should be more mad at the author or the editor. I’m not sure there was an editor, based on some of the super repetition (that had nothing to do with the story or dropping clues) and the super formal/stilted way the characters spoke to each other. Seriously, it was painful at some points. I did look into Oceanview Publishing and it says it’s an independent publisher, but based on this book I had to wonder if it was more vanity than independent, which doesn’t reflect well on them.

Book 609: Get It Done – Michael Mackintosh

This book just wasn’t for me. I felt like it took MONTHS to read (it only took two weeks, but it was two weeks too long). The publicist reached out to me a bout this book sometime in 2018 and I just now got around to it, so clearly I needed the time management, but apparently not much else in this book.*

Overall, this book just didn’t sit well with me. I had a lot of issues with how Mackintosh approached his time management system (it’s a WAR, you have to WHACK things) and the layout/formatting of the book had quite a few issues. Mackintosh builds his whole premise on the book that if you have a better time system, know what your challenges are going to be, and set up your goals and limitations ahead of time you’ll be perfectly set to finish a project in 21 days. You can do this with his help by buying the book AND/or subscribing to his class/workshop.

Book 428: Girl In A Band – Kim Gordon

Gordon, Kim - Girl In A BandFor our second book in our year of biography/autobiography/memoir books someone chose Kim Gordon’s Girl In A Band. It’s a look back on her time in the band Sonic Youth (never heard of them) and about her life as an artist. Seriously though, not my thing. I looked up a few of their most well-known songs on YouTube and was like “nope.” I just need a bit more structure in my music. It’s probably the same reason I don’t like jazz. I’m also still not quite sure what the difference is between New Wave, No Wave, Punk, and Post punk, but I guess it doesn’t really matter.

If I’m honest, I wasn’t looking forward to this book, or at least two more that we’re planning to read. It’s mostly because I know nothing about the subject matter, but it’s also because I don’t find the subject matter interesting. That being said I did find enough in this book to keep me mostly engaged.
