Book 918: Prejudice Meets Pride (Meet Your Match #1) – Rachael Anderson

I am NOT happy with this book. I purchased it back in July 2015 and assumed, like many others on Goodreads, that this was a modern retelling of Jane Austen.

Like everyone else who read it with this assumption, this can be blamed on us not reading the blurb—nowhere does it say that it’s a retelling. HOWEVER, to take such an iconic title from such an iconic work of fiction and repurpose it without even mentioning Austen or her works in what you’re writing is either incredibly naïve/ridiculous or incredibly underhanded and manipulative.

Book 848: The Stolen Suitor (Clyde’s Corner #2) – Eli Easton

Book Cover of "The Stolen Suitor" with Amazon Affiliate linkSo, Easton can tell a story that’s NOT a MM Holiday Romance 😀 I mean, I knew this was true, she clearly has dozens of other works out there, but somehow the only two I’ve read from her were both Holiday Romances.

Going into this one my first instinct that Easton bit off more than she could chew with two parallel romances happening at the same time. I wasn’t 100% correct, but I do think there were some weaknesses in the book because she ultimately split the story line and there were so many subplots.

This is the story of ex-stepbrothers Jonas, super-hot king of the mountain at his college, and Quinn, emotionally fragile college dropout trying to make a new life, and their being unexpectedly stuck in Jonas’ family cabin for a week where they come to terms with their long-held-at-bay attraction for each other.

Book 730: Conventionally Yours (True Colors #1) – Annabeth Albert

Book cover of "Conventionally Yours" with Amazon Affiliate linkI’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing I let so much time pass between finishing this and writing this review. If I would’ve written this right after I finished it would’ve been effusive and glowing, but about a week later it’s much more measured (I think).

It’s no secret that I adore Albert’s books—seriously, I created a tag so it’s even easier for you to find them and I’m slowly working my way through her entire back list, but this one hasn’t stayed with me like some of her other series. Don’t be mistaken, I thoroughly enjoyed it and my adoration of Albert has not lessened, I think maybe it’s just matured.

Book 665: Status Update (#gaymers #1) – Annabeth Albert

cover art of status update with Amazon Affiliate linkThis is totally going to be one of those years (ahem, like most recently) where I cram in as many rom-com M/M romance novels as I possibly can. I had every intention of making a dent in my ARC pile and TBR shelves, but I needed a grin-inducing, wistfully gazing off into the distance misty eyed read. (100% blaming Schitt’s Creek here, but that’s a different story.)

And that’s exactly what I got out of it. Were there any earth shaking revelations or any literary grandiosity? No. This was a sappy, goofy, meet-cute filled oh-shit-there’s-drama-let’s-make-up story that was a quick and enjoyable read.
